^ Well, I've tried to reason with you BB. It appears you wont be reasoned with. You are desperately trying to win an argument that you lost a long time back. Nice of you to resort to insults. I guess that proves that you are losing the argument....!

You appear to fail to comprehend the meaning implicit in what I have written, taking things out of context and looking to twist the meaning, I presume as some lame defense mechanism. So be it.

    I agree with your conclusion...

"1) Get the PAD off their back.
    2) Attack PT any which way.
    "

But then again, that wasn't the point was it...It is just something you added having failed to address the news article that I posted which supports my original contention. Oh well, never mind.
"Slavery is the daughter of darkness; an ignorant people is the blind instrument of its own destruction; ambition and intrigue take advantage of the credulity and inexperience of men who have no political, economic or civil knowledge. They mistake pure illusion for reality, license for freedom, treason for patriotism, vengeance for justice."-Simón Bolívar

PAD defending second civil case for airports seizure

People's Alliance for Democracy leader Sondhi Limthongkul on Thursday testified in defence of the PAD-led protest and seizure of Don Mueang and Suvarnabhumi airports in 2008.

Aeronauticial Radio of Thailand Ltd is the plaintiff in the civil litigation demanding for Bt103 million damage from 15 protest organisers, including Sondhi.

Speaking from the witness stand at the Civil Court, Sondhi said protesters were confined to their rally site, located apart from air traffic operations at the two airports.

He said the protest did not disrupt flight departures and arrivals and that the rally took place at the designated area used in past protests led by taxi drivers.

This is a second civil litigation faced by the PAD. In the first case, Airports of Thailand won the Bt522 million damage awarded by the lower court's decision. The case is under the appellate review.

Bangkok Post : Weng pursues PAD's airports case

    Weng pursues PAD's airports case

Pheu Thai list MP Weng Tojirakarn has submitted a letter to the House committee on legal affairs, justice and human rights to follow up the progress of the legal case on the seizures of Don Mueang and Suvarnabhumi airports by the People's Alliance for Democracy (PAD) in 2008.

Mr Weng, a core member of the United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship (UDD), said today the case had been dragged on for over two years with little progress seen.

"I want the justice process to be equally applied. While many cases concerning the red shirts have gone through the judicial process and many of them have been jailed, the PAD's airports seizure case has not made much progress. So, the House committee on justice and human rights has been asked to follow up the case," he said.

In this case, police had forwarded an investigation report to the prosecution, recommending indictment of PAD leaders and associates.

On former prime minister Abhisit Vejjajiva's comment that the court verdict against Pol L/Cpl Bundit Sitthithum, a former policeman of Sa Kaeo's Wang Nam Yen district, who was handed down 38 years in jail for firing a rocket-propelled grenade (RPG) at the Defence Ministry, confirmed that the UDD had an armed force, Mr Weng said this was totally a lie.

The Pheu Thai MP said he respected the court's verdict, but Mr Abhisit had no reason to take this case to assume that the convict was part of the UDD's armed elements.

The UDD had carried out its protests peacefully without use of weapons, he said.

I understand the PAD sent some verbal artillery in the direction of the US Embassy today, for suggesting that a certain law was an anachronism.

    Shows their true colours.

Who would not agree that a certain law is an anachronism?

    Anyone on this Board?

PAD leader fined for court absence

    January 23, 2012 2:37 pm

Sondhi Limthongkul, a co-leader of the People's Alliance for Democracy, was fined Bt4,000 by the Criminal Court on Monday for failing to show up to hear a court verdict related to his Manager Group.

Sondhi, the founder of the Manager Group, was supposed to hear the verdict by the Criminal Court on January 19 but he claimed he was receiving medical treatment in China. He is accused of violating the Securities Exchange Commission Act by filing a false statement to the Stock Exchange of Thailand from October 8, to 31 1996 regarding the Manager Group’s accounts.

On January 19, the Criminal Court issued an arrest warrant against Sondhi, so he turned himself to the court on Monday. The court ordered him to be in court to hear the verdict on February 28.

Sondhi was a hardcore leader of the PAD protests against Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra in 2006 and was behind the seizure of the Government House and airports in 2008.

More airport charges laid on PAD bosses | Bangkok Post: news

More airport charges laid on PAD bosses

Police action follows threat of mass rallies

More criminal charges have been laid against 46 core leaders of the People's Alliance for Democracy already facing legal action as a result of their occupation of Don Mueang and Suvarnabhumi airports in November 2008.

Flashback: In November 2008, members of the People's Alliance for Democracy (PAD) seized control of Suvarnabhumi and Don Mueang airport for more than a week, forcing the cancellation of all flights and inconveniencing tens of thousands of tourists and residents.

Pol Gen Somyot Phumphanmuang, an adviser on security and special affairs to the Royal Thai Police Office, said yesterday that his team would summon 46 PAD suspects to hear additional charges next Friday.
The leaders face charges ranging from leading an illegal assembly of 10 or more people to violating an emergency decree and causing extreme damage to airport facilities.

The leaders include Saranyu Wongkrachang, Sirichai Mai-ngam, Kasit Piromya, Suriyan Thong-nuiat, Panthep Puapongpan, Pichet Pattanachot, Sunan Srijantha, Somboon Thongburan, Thoetphum Jaidee, Toemsak Jarupran, Ammarin Khoman, Pol Gen Prathin Santiprapop, Pramot Nakhonthap, Thoetsak Satcharak, Sunthorn Rakrong, Suraphong Chainam, Gen Panthep Puwanartnurak, Sarocha Pornudomsak, Pichit Chaimongkol and Banchong Nasae.

Pol Gen Somyot said investigators forwarded their report on the airport occupation case to the Office of the Attorney-General on March 18 last year.

On Wednesday, the Office of Special Public Prosecutors on Criminal Cases ordered investigators to conduct an additional investigation and inform each of the 46 suspects of the extra charges they face.

The police are required to send investigation reports on the additional charges to the office by March 10.

The police plan to summon the core leaders to hear the additional charges next Friday.

Political observers noted that the Office of Special Public Prosecutors announced more charges were being laid against the leaders after the PAD threatened legal action and mass rallies in response to the government's charter amendment bid on Wednesday.

Pol Gen Somyot said suspects who twice failed to report to police to acknowledge the charges would face arrest warrants.

The additional charges pressed against the suspects vary according to their activities and involvement in the airport blockades.

Among the 46 suspects, the public prosecutor has dropped terrorism charges against six of them: Mr Kasit, Mr Thoetphum, Ms Anchalee, Ms Sarocha, Mr Pichit and Mr Banchong.

But the six will face an additional charge of leading an illegal gathering of more than 10 people.

PAD members report to police for airport charges

BANGKOK, 13 March 2012 (NNT) – The People’s Alliance for Democracy (PAD) members have shown up at the Royal Thai Police Office as summoned to hear additional charges against them.

Fifteen out of the 30 members summoned by the police have turned up for the second time on Monday to hear additional charges laid against them by public prosecutors. The police will issue arrest warrants for the other fifteen unless they turn themselves in by this Friday.

Among those who appeared were PAD Spokesman Panthep Puapongpan and actor Saranyu Wongkrajang. They have been charged with violating the emergency law by occupying the Suvarnabhumi and Don Muang airports during the protests back in 2008. The PAD members denied all charges.

Former foreign minister Kasit acknowledges added charges on airport seizure

Former foreign minister Kasit acknowledges added charges on airport seizure

    วันพุธ ที่ 14 มี.ค. 2555

BANGKOK, March 14 – Former foreign minister Kasit Piromya on Wednesday met with the police to acknowledge added charges of his role in the blockade of Thailand's two main airports during the 2008 Yellow Shirt rallies.

Mr Kasit appeared at the Crime Suppression Division to acknowledge the added charges related to the seizure of Suvarnabhumi and Don Mueang airports by the People's Alliance for Democracy (PAD) -- the Yellow Shirt movement -- during the then Somchai Wongsawat administration.

According to the police, Mr Kasit was charged with unlawful assembly, threatening to harm other persons and stirring disturbances.

However, the former foreign minister denied all charges, saying that he would submit a written statement within 30 days to answer them.

The acknowledgement came after a prosecutor of the Department of Special Litigation ordered police investigators to inform 46 of the 116 accused to acknowledge the added charges.

Speaking after his appearance, Mr Kasit said he respected the work of the police and the prosecutor.

Meanwhile, Pol Gen Somyos Poompanmuang, chief investigator, said there remains six accused who have not yet reported to the police. All of them informed the police that they would report at a later date.

If the accused did not acknowledge the added charges within Friday (March 16), the police will ask the prosecutor to seek arrest warrants for them, Gen Somyos explained.

In a related development, Anchalee Paireerak, a key former PAD supporter, was reportedly scheduled to acknowledge the added charges Wednesday afternoon.

The Yellow Shirt protesters staged mass protests in 2008 that led to their blockade of Thailand's two main airports--Suvarnabhumi and Don Mueang.

The airport siege paralysed the tourism industry and helped to topple the then Somchai Wongsawat administration which the Yellow Shirts accused of being a proxy of fugitive ex-prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra.

The airport seizure in late 2008 left hundreds of thousands of Thai and foreign passengers stranded.

The blockade was lifted after the Constitution Court disbanded the ruling People Power Party after finding it guilty of poll fraud. All party executives, including Prime Minister Somchai, were disqualified. Mr Somchai was then automatically removed from his post as premier. (MCOT online news)

The fading yellow | Bangkok Post: opinion

    The fading yellow

The yellows no longer have a strong enough platform to stand on, to shout and scream from _ and hence, the passion subsided, the funds drained and the movement has waned There's a rumour being reported in newspapers that Sondhi Limthongkul has actually made up with Thaksin Shinawatra in the interests of good business. Who knows if there is truth to that, but this much we do know.

When the Kingdom's highest court ordered the seizure of 46 billion baht of Thaksin's frozen assets in February 2010, tens of thousands of screaming UDD supporters descended on Bangkok, and the streets were painted blood red.

When the Criminal Court on Feb 28 this year sentenced Sondhi to 20 years in jail without parole for violating the Securities and Exchange Act, the only yellow in the streets were the lights that tells drivers to speed up, floor the gas pedal.

When army tanks rolled into the capital in September 2006, the yellows greeted the soldiers with cheers and flowers. Last week when they wanted to use the grounds of the Army Club for a political rally, they were told to ''go somewhere else''.

That refusal signified one of the last few remaining breaths of an organisation that once moved a Kingdom, but now can't even move more than a few hundred people onto the streets.

How has it come to this?

The yellows no longer have a strong enough platform to stand on, to shout and scream from _ and hence, the passion subsided, the funds drained and the movement has waned.

In 2005, at the height of Thaksin's power, the PAD took to the streets on the platform of fighting corruption. But fighting corruption is never a strong enough platform, at least not in the Kingdom of Thailand. The factor that inspired people to don yellow and take to the streets was defence of that most sacred institution, the monarchy.

As for whether the Thaksin network was ever anti-monarchy, there is not and never has been any proof of that. But that is neither here nor there. The lips of society were flapping less about corruption, but more of anti-monarchy sentiments.

With disgust and condemnation, the lips vented about how the former prime minister made funny faces during a royal audience. With rumours and speculation, the lips fumed over how the fugitive prime minister planned to turn Thailand into a republic, with him as the president.

Corruption is never enough to incite passion. The love of the King always is plenty more than enough. As a strategy to undermine the Thaksin political machine, it worked wonders _ seven years ago.

The problem is, seven years have gone by and no plot to overthrow the monarchy has been exposed. In fact, Thaksin's ruling Pheu Thai Party has proclaimed itself the defender of the monarchy and a staunch supporter of the lese majeste law.

This is a sound political move on Thaksin's part, nudging the PAD, the military and the Democrats aside and planting his own foothold on this strongest of platforms.

The devout loyalty game may be the most popular one in town, but it also makes a mockery of that which we hold near and dear _ but this too is neither here nor there in this game of thrones.

Of course, opponents of the Thaksin political machine do not believe in their sincerity, but it matters not. The cloak of devout loyalty serves as a protective armour, not a persuasive tool.

Two years after the 2006 coup, the PAD was still flying high with zeal, yet again playing a hand in bringing down another democratically elected government.

The storming of Government House and the occupation of Suvarnabhumi airport in 2008 were two actions of irresponsible audacity and self-indulgent righteousness only matched by the UDD in 2009 and surpassed by them in 2010.

But winning battles and winning the war isn't the same thing.

The PAD won most of their street battles. Even when they lost a battle in their attempt to close off parliament in October 2008, which led to several deaths, there was a symbolic victory in the Queen attending the cremation ceremony of one PAD casualty.

On the other hand, the UDD ultimately lost their street battles in 2009 and 2010. Supporters were killed, dispersed and jailed. Leaders either jailed or fled to a neighbouring country.

But what matters most is, now in 2012, Thaksin's Pheu Thai Party has an absolute majority in parliament, with his sister sitting as prime minister.

The UDD is winning the war.

A movement can only fight for so long and meet with so many failures before it starts to fade away.

It was fashionable at first. The earliest supporters of the PAD were Bangkok socialites and high society personalities donning expensive yellow silks. The PAD soon grew to include the middle class and also the working class.

From the upper echelons to maids and chauffers, they joined together and took to the streets by the thousands in a crusade, not just against corruption, that is never enough, but to defend the most sacred institution. It was chivalrous, romantic even.

Today, the PAD is splintered into various smaller groups, including the most active one in recent time, Tul Sitthisomwong's multi-coloured group. But none of them could ever muster more than a few hundred supporters.

They have also split with an important ally, the Democrat Party. Their own political party, the New Politics Party, is practically a non-entity in parliament. And now, the army has closed its doors to them, seemingly in any case.

Corruption, it's not enough to rally a crusade. Charter amendments are also not enough to rally a crusade, even if many have argued that said amendment is in the interests of granting amnesty to Thaksin.

As for defending the monarchy, how is one to defend the monarchy against someone else who's also defending the monarchy? Everybody is defending the monarchy. The platform is crowded. There's not enough of a foothold, not enough space to shout and scream from _ and hence, the passion subsided, the funds drained and the movement waned.

But it's not only the passion.

Passion is central to any movement, but it is mere wind if it's not backed up by sustained professionalism.

The logistics, the infrastructure and the funding of the UDD have proven resilient in carrying the red passion afloat on the wings of the northeasterly wind.

In funding, Thaksin is no pauper to say the very least, and his allies in the business community are some of the richest in the country. The transport, the supplies, the power generators, the facilities and the amenities _ the entertainment, the bands, the media channels, the massage corners, computer games for kids, the merchants and vendors _ they transported thousands from upcountry and created a mini-city in Ratchaprasong district, efficient and sustainable, in the heart of Bangkok.

While not all red shirts are fans of Thaksin, the majority, and especially among the leaders, are devout followers of his cult of personality. The toppling of two democratically elected governments (Thai Rak Thai and the People Power Party) and the many casualties in clashes with troops only serve to fuel the passion.

As an organisation, the UDD is run by professionals. As an organisation, the PAD is a part-time gig.

The question then becomes if and when Thaksin sets foot on Thai soil, would the fear/hatred for him spur enough passion to resuscitate the fading yellow? Does the PAD have the logistics, infrastructure and funding to take on the Thaksin political machine for a third time?
