    Thailand: 'Public opposes red-shirt rally'

Bangkok Post : Public opposes red-shirt rally: poll

    Public opposes red-shirt rally: poll
    By: BangkokPost.com

More than 76% of people living in Bangkok questioned in a Bangkok University poll disagree with the red-shirt group's threat to a long anti-government rally if the government fails to meet their demands.

They said the demands of the United Front of Democracy against Dictatorship (UDD) to the government -- to remove Foreign Minister Kasit Pirom, to reshuffle the cabinet and to speed up cases against People's Alliance for Democracy (PAD) over airport closure -- could damage the country and prolong national crisis.

Only 23.7% agree with the demands, saying that they want clearer action on the government's stance on PAD, and because they do not like Prime Minister Abhisit and the Democrat party.

Of all, 68.1% think there should not be a cabinet reshuffle at the moment.

However, 31.9% think the premier should reshuffle the cabinet, and Mr Kasit is the minister they think should be removed the most.

The Abhisit government received an overall point of 5.42 out of 10 on performance on the respondents' opinions.

The survey questioned 1,254 people living in Bangkok on Monday and Tuesday.

70+ percent - that's a pretty big dis-approval rating for the UDD Red Shirts.

    How far they have fallen...

Never trust a statistic you didn't fake yourself. Let's not forget that just this sunday they could easily gather what even the Nation admitted to be more than 50'000 people, the organisators claim it was much more, that's a lot compared to what the PAD could organise in their days. I think it's indeed possible that the people are getting tired with this obstruction politics of both PAD and UDD, but it would be silly to blindly trust a survey conducted by edit: a random university.

The public also opposed the PAD rallies but obviously nobody cares too much what the public think.

1254 random people in BKK, where the PAD has the majority of its support, are going to decide what's right to do. Sounds like exactly what the PAD wants.

The PAD had extremely prominent and wealthy supporters who catered for most of the needs of the demonstrators, organised their transportation, food, hundreds of security guards etc. And yet I wouldn't claim that they were all paid, as that is simply not true. The few thousand from saturdays rally that actually came from the countryside mostly had to pay for their ticket themselves, a few busses were organised, but I know that you don't really care about that at all as long as you can repeat silly accusations BF. They also couldn't afford the rally to be on any other day than saturday, as on monday they have to work..

PAD were paid supporters and polls are meaningless. Carry on UDD, take it to those yellow belly bastards.

See above. Stop living in denial, this is Thailand, not your home country where people care about Democracy.

As Mid will lecture you "THAT'S WHAT DEMOCRACY IS ALL ABOUT - VOTE BUYING!!!"

75 Million Baht for the extras casting = $2.2 million dollars.

Well, seeing as how Thaksin's down to his last 500 million $$$, he better start being careful with his expenses.

Isn't it funny that when Mid throws out accusations, and is requested to substantiate them, all you hear is the chirping of crickets -- yet when you make a pretty obvious statement about the buying of attendance, and it doesn't jive with Mid's opinion, he's the first one to scream "Link?!"

People like Mid wouldn't know the first thing about democracy, since he doesn't practice it himself.

ok boys, no need to spread your new found love to news threads, thanks

As Mid will lecture you "THAT'S WHAT DEMOCRACY IS ALL ABOUT - VOTE BUYING!!!"
It has never been about Democracy, I think only a few are making that mistake. It's all about justification of becoming the new supreme leader, and the poor are being played in that game of elite power struggle, the Nouveau Riche against the old Noblesse establishment.
