Pattaya - Australian tourist beaten up by Thai motorbike taxi driver

Tourist Beaten for Not Having Change

A weird case this one, on the 13th January, the Sawang Boriboon notified the Pattaya Police that they were treating an Australian tourist on Second Road for being beaten up by a taxi bike rider.

Officers went along to the scene to find 65 years old Mr. Bruce Whittington being treated for a severe head wound. He stated that on returning to his condo on a taxi bike, he tendered a 1,000 baht note to pay for his trip. For some reason, the rider was not happy and after failing to get any small change from the drunken Australian, the man began punching him severely around the head before leaving the scene.

so the guys going home to a condo on a motorcycle taxi ,

guess it's not a first for him ,

so maybe he should have been prepared with some smaller freight ,

not a reason to hand out a beating , expect words may have been exchanged first ??

He probably tried to lay the blame for Anzac on the motorcy driver, who of course, being an uneducated Thai, didn't understand him, then went on to call the driver a thick Thai c£nt, slagged off several nations into the bargain, mainly the poms and the kiwis, then proffered a 1k note, which is a really stupid thing to do, got even more upset when change was not available, passed out, hit his head on the ground (being the closest available object) while humming "Sun Arise"

Woke up a few hours later and blamed everyone else but himself for the incident.

And you wonder why we put them in irons and shipped them as far away as possible.

P.S. there is a large amount of tongue in cheek sarcasm in that post.

He must have been arsey with the driver somehow IMHO. Never had a problem with the m/c boys. Unlike the cnuts that drive the songtiaws. Even if I'm staying "up the hill" when I'm too pissed at 2am to even call my own driver then these boys usually get me back safely. Tell them its 100 baht if they stay below 25Km/h. 50 baht if they go above and 0baht if they go anything over 30. Done with a smile it disproves every cliche about thais on motorcycles (well I'm not dead yet).

99% of them usually good natured lads trying to earn a living.

On rare occasions I use them but always make sure they understand that if they kill me they don't get paid...usually seems to work, they get into the spirit and make a point of driving at a sensible pace, and good thing is I'm never going far enough away for them to get bored and slip into kamikaze mode.

^ Yup... the old guy got a severe beating around the head by a young taxi driver... Bet the taxi driver hasn't got anything but a bruised ego from the old guy possibly giving him too much verbal... Without knowing the whole story, I'd say it's a cowardly act by the driver...

Could be driver hadn't seen anything larger than a 50 all day and was nudged over the top by the sudden rude realisation that there's heaps of money all around him but none in his pocket. In this case the victim just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time and just as well an Aussie.

I think Keda hit the nail on the head there. Don't know about BKK but down south a taxi driver's on 200 baht a day.

^ I agree... If I was set upon by a crispy pensioner I think a restraining headlock until the first signs of cardiac arrest started to show would be enough....

If there was a gang of them I would just leg it...

No, just as an Aussie he's less likely to feel it.

Different values , , , , I remember being told how great Asian values were - the family thing, respect for the elders, helping one another . . .

After quite a few years in HK, Singapore and traveling around the area 300 days a year on business it is all a croc of

You're right, but this don't apply to Dick Cheney.
