A plastic box containing Bt12 million in cash was mysteriously left in the Pak Kret district of Nonthaburi province.
A woman, identified only as “Usa”, found the box, along with some documents, near a garbage dump at the Muang Thong Thani condominium around 7.40pm yesterday.
She told police that she was walking home when she saw the box and intended to take it, because it was abandoned but still in good condition.
When she opened the box, though, she discovered piles of 1,000 baht banknotes, so she alerted the police, who counted the cash and confirmed that it amounted to 12 million.
The documents included tax-related papers and an envelope bearing the emblem of the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC), along with a name.
The Thai PBS team contacted the NBTC about the discovery and learned that the name on the envelope is that of an NBTC commissioner's aide.
