On the morning of Sunday, 25 May 2025, a tragic incident occurred in Tha Chana district, Surat Thani province, Thailand. A 35-year-old man, identified as Surapong Thongnak, was killed when a grenade he attempted to throw detonated in his hand.
According to reports, Surapong visited the residence of his estranged girlfriend in Moo 1, Samo Thong subdistrict, around 8:00 AM. Despite previous rejections and being blocked on social media, he was determined to confront her. When bystanders intervened as he attempted to attack her with scissors, he retreated to his car and retrieved a grenade. He threw the grenade, but it failed to explode. As he attempted to throw it a second time, it detonated in his hand, killing him instantly and injuring four bystanders.
Rescue workers from the Jonsaratha Foundation responded to the scene, and police are investigating the origin of the grenade. The incident has left the local community in shock.
