Rare Leopard Sighting Thrills Tourists at Kaeng Krachan National Park

On December 18th, 2024, around 6:50 AM, tourists at Kaeng Krachan National Park in Phetchaburi Province spotted a leopard walking along the road near Sam Yod checkpoint en route to Ban Krang Camp.

Mr. Kristipong Ngamjing captured the remarkable sight and noted the leopard’s unusual behavior—it showed no fear of humans and calmly posed for photographs.

This rare encounter highlights the park’s rich biodiversity, which serves as a sanctuary for many endangered species.
The national park has urged visitors to maintain a safe distance when encountering wildlife to ensure the safety of both humans and animals.

This range map for leopards in Thailand comes from the National Parks website. Those sightings from Petchabun/Chaiyaphum are not too far away from me. I wonder how easy it might be to see a wild leopard?

This is making me reconsider my weekly hashing antics.

I really don't need a jungle cat in my face when I'm trying to sweat out a hangover.

Feline like a cold one right now, will await until sun over yardarm which is standard sailing discipline. I must admit had a small peg of scotch in my Oirish holiday coffee on coldest morning of the year after breakfast!

The sun usually rises over the yard arm at 10:00am, so I think you’ll be fine!
