A family of four, including a 66-year-old woman, were safely rescued last night, after they were trapped by flash flood in the middle of a forest next to Khao Yai National Park in Prachan Takham district of Prachin Buri province.
The woman, identified as Somwang Yaim-aek, and three family members went into the forest in Nong Kaew sub-district yesterday morning, reportedly to plant bamboo, until late afternoon when they headed back home.
On the way back, runoffs from within the park cascaded down the mountain, turning a stream into a raging torrent, leaving them unable to cross and stranded in the jungle.
Somwang told the media, after being rescued, that they could not call for help because there was no cell signal in the area, adding that she had to wait until nightfall, when they managed to get through to a relative to get help.
In response, a team of emergency workers from the Ruam Katanyu Foundation rushed to the scene in 4WD trucks. The team had to tie a rope across the raging stream to bring the four to safety, one at a time.
