American goes missing at sea off Phuket

An American went missing while surfing in the sea off Nai Harn beach in Phuket yesterday while his three-year-old son was safely rescued by life guards.

Life guards posted to Nai Harn Beach responded quickly to a call for help from the Thai wife of the American, James Everett Boyles, and managed to pull their three-year-old from the sea.

The woman, who was swimming near the shore, later told emergency workers that she felt currents pulling her away from the shoreline and immediately went ashore.

She said she realised that her husband, who was surf-boarding not far from the beach, was being pulled further out to the sea and shouted for help.

Emergency workers searched for the American until nightfall, but failed to find him. The search was expected to resume today.

Meanwhile, the Department of Mineral Resources has instructed its emergency volunteers to alert people living at the bases of mountains and near watercourses in Mae Hong Son, Chiang Mai, Tak, Chiang Rai, Nan, Kanchanaburi and Trat provinces to the possibility of landslides and flash floods today and tomorrow due to heavy rain.

The areas have been lashed by 150mm of rain in the past 24 hours.

The Meteorological Department also forecasts heavy to very heavy rain from today until June 16, as a monsoon trough prevails over the north and northeast.

This is compounded by a south-westerly monsoon looming over the Andaman Sea and the Gulf, where moderate winds and waves prevail.

What was the three year olds role in this? Was he surfing too? Or swimming with the mom and she only saved herself? Did they both leave the three year old alone while they went swimming and surfing? The article’s not entirely clear.

Aside from that, it doesn’t sound good for the American father.

Is that why you post the words 'medieval snakepit' every day?

    Because you think people care?

    Evidently so.

in much the same way the spammer thinks he is ‘making a difference to the world’ by his cut n paste mega threads of global warming.

    ….

Point of order, can a place be Muslim and heathen at the same time? I don’t think so. You’re getting caught up in your own word salads.

Body of missing American surfer found

A rescue team has found the body of an American who went missing while surfing off Nai Harn Beach in Phuket province on Sunday.
The body, identified as James Everett Boyles, had washed ashore.
Boyles’ Thai wife alerted lifeguards at the beach after noticing that her husband, who was surfing not far from the beach, could no longer be seen.
She said she was swimming near the shore when she felt currents pulling her out to sea. It was then that she realised that her husband was being pulled away as well and was shouting for help.
Their three-year-old son was safely rescued by the lifeguards and Boyles’ wife has formally identified the body.
The rescue teams had used jet skis, boats and drones in their efforts to locate him.
