Online influencer criticised after beach stunt

An influencer with more than 14 million subscribers was criticised after he drove his car onto a popular beach in Chumphon province to create content for his followers.

The “SpriteDer SPD” channel, operated by Netijenn Pakuikham, has garnered 3.38 billion views and 14.1 million subscribers since its founding ten years ago.

On Sunday, Netijenn drove his black Tesla onto a beach at about 5:30pm in Langsuan district. The beach is always crowded with tourists and runners.

His attempt came to an abrupt end when his car got stuck in the sand, but the incident went viral after being filmed by passers-by and posted on many social media platforms.

It attracted hundreds of comments, mostly negative, criticising his actions as inappropriate and as setting a bad example to others.

Commentators called for the authorities to take action against Netijenn.

Many passers-by did, however, take the opportunity to snap selfies with the Youtuber and complimented him for the attempt.

Meanwhile, Pinsak Suraswadi, Director-General of the Marine and Coastal Resources Department, told reporters that the action was inappropriate, because a beach is a sensitive area and many marine animals could have been affected by the act.

By law, however, the area is not protected, so no legal action can be taken.

The act may, though, have violated traffic regulations, he added, noting that a similar incident occurred on a beach in Phuket.

He’s Thai. Your descriptor is probably redundant.

You’re a Brit, the descriptor would be equally redundant.

Probably only Cyrille will get the reference but I used to go skating on that beach many years ago.

    Here's a picture from MySpace.

It's amazing how they define their success by how many followers they have. Social Media...... in all its glory with all its pied pipers and lemmings.

The real measure of success is obviously views.

^yeah, it's the views which bring money. Though one can capitalise on the number of followers/ subscribers too, e.g. when they get sponsors like VPN companies, skillshare, ridge wallet, Kamikoto knife, etc.

I know one YouTuber in PH - he's a builder/ contractor. He doesn't get that many views per vid but he uploads everyday, so the views (and $$$) add up. He initially made the YT channel as a way to update his clients re: their builds. He has 100k+ subscribers. Because of his views/ subscribers, Makita (the equipment company) contacted him and gave him free equipment! I think it was 5 or so pieces of equipment. One was the laser thingy (to make straight lines), another one was the tool for cutting cement boards, etc. Everytime he or his men use the equipment (and it's shown on vid), he thanks Makita. Somehow, I've been influenced because if I thought that if I'll buy a certain piece of equipment, I'll choose Makita. Lol.

So yeah, the number of followers somehow matters.

Re: the OP, yeah he probably thought that he's the same status as the Red Bull heir or the Thai version of Mr. Beast.

Indeed. Support these asshats. They need more money to do nothing but pollute the internet and "Influence" their lemming followers.

Yes it's interesting that they can monetise it to an extent that it pays for there travels? Obviously some of the more established ones are making money
Would be interesting to know how much? For example the Finn snow guy seems to be doing OK has a nice lifestyle, car and even bought a yacht. Wow. Can you tubers make enough to buy yachts now. Was watching Harold bald today vlogging from halon Bay with a sidekick asian American called noodles it was quite amusing. Likewise Harold seems to stay in some serious places. I quite like his humour . He doesn't just specialise in 1 country this will be the downfall of Finn snow Tim k etc they will run out of content.
Hope you are well..don't forget to.like, share and subscribe
He promised to headbutt me, if he ever saw me. Charming.

I guess that my solution would be that he 'never saw me'.
