On May 14th, 2024, Mueang Phatthalung police officers rescued three Indonesian men after being kidnapped for ransom by a group of Thai individuals in Mueang, Phatthalung.


According to the police report, Mr. Daniel Sihombing, the Deputy Consul of the Consulate of Indonesia in Songkhla Province, reported to Mueang Phatthalung police that a victim identified only as Mr. Syawana, a 29-year-old Indonesian, was kidnapped by a group of Thai individuals in Hat Yai, Songkhla, on May 11th.


It was reported that the Thai suspects allegedly sent a video torturing Syawana to his sister and asked for a ransom of 2.3 million baht. Syawana’s relatives reportedly transferred 800,000 baht to the suspects and then reported the incident to the Consulate of Indonesia in Phatthalung, concerned for his safety.

Upon further police investigation, the officers inspected a house which was found to be a hideout of the suspects in Mueang, Phatthalung. As a result, Syawana and two other unidentified Indonesians were safely rescued.

Initially, one of the Thai suspects, identified only as Mr. Virasak, 37, was arrested at the house before being escorted to Mueang Phatthalung police station for further legal processing. The police would investigate the case further to hold other involved individuals accountable for their crimes.
