Hospital director admits slapping teen father for smoking in hospital toilet

Director of Mongkut Wattana Hospital, Dr Rienthong Nanna, has admitted that he slapped the face of a 14-year-old boy, ordered him stripped naked and left the hospital, after the boy was caught smoking in the hospital’s toilet.

In his Facebook post today, Dr Rienthong, who is known for his extreme right-wing political views, said that his punishment of the boy was intended to teach him a lesson for violating the hospital’s strict no-smoking regulations.

He explained that smoke from the cigarette will enter the air-conditioning system and spread all over the place, including to where patients are waiting to see doctors.

He claimed that, in the past, there were two fires caused by burning cigarette butts left by someone in the hospital, adding that the boy had violated the rights of the hospital and its patients by smoking in the toilet.

The doctor admitted that what he did to the boy was wrong, but refused to apologise.

Meanwhile, the boy’s mother admitted that her son was wrong for smoking in the hospital, but could not accept the punishment inflicted on her son by Dr. Rienthong.

She disclosed that her boy cried because he felt very embarrassed by being stripped naked in the crowded hospital. She also said that she would pay the 5,000 baht fine imposed by the hospital for the violation of the hospital’s regulations. The teen was visiting his partner who just delivered a baby in the hospital when the incident happened..

The mother has filed a complaint with the police against Dr Rienthong.

Director of Famous Hospital in Bangkok Accused of Allegedly Assaulting 14-Year-Old Boy for Smoking on Premises

At 1:00 PM, on May 14th, 2024, Thung Song Hong police officers received a report from a victim’s mother who allegedly was physically assaulted by the director of Mongkutwattana Hospital, Bangkok.

According to the police report, Ms. Kanlaya, the mother of the 14-year-old victim who allegedly was slapped several times by the director of Mongkutwattana Hospital at 11 PM, on May 13th, filed a report to Thung Song Hong police.

The 14-year-old boy, whose name was withheld due to his age, told the police that he had been visiting his 17-year-old pregnant girlfriend at Mongkutwattana Hospital, and he secretly went to smoke inside a toilet on the first floor of the hospital’s building. As a result, more than seven hospital staff members allegedly surrounded the boy, confiscated his phone, and asked him to pay a fine of 5,000 baht for smoking in the hospital.

However, the owner and director of Mongkutwattana Hospital Rienthong Nanna allegedly arrived at the scene and shouted to the boy “How dare you smoke in this place?” and then allegedly slapped the boy’s face a few times.

After that, the boy reportedly told the police that Dr. Rienthong allegedly forced him to strip naked before kicking him out of the hospital.

The boy told the police that he walked from the hospital and asked for help from good citizens at Soi Chaengwattana 12, Bangkok, and called his relatives to pick him up and reported the story to the police.

On May 15th, Dr. Rienthong Nanna posted on his social media regarding the incident that on May 13th, there was a teenager secretly smoking at a toilet inside the outpatient department while the hospital publicly announced over the public speakers to deal with smoking violators strictly and severely.

Dr. Rienthong stated that previously there were two fire incidents in 2015 and 2021 from smoking. Therefore, he had to deal with the 14-year-old violator personally by slapping him in the face, confiscating his phone, and ordering him to strip naked before kicking him out of the hospital, posted Dr. Rienthong.

However, the boy then allegedly brought six motorbike gang members to threaten the hospital staff members, stated Dr. Rienthong.

Meanwhile, at 10:35 AM today, May 15th, 2024, Mr. Ratchaphon Sirisakorn, a lawyer of the 14-year-old boy and Kanlaya gave additional testimony to Thung Song Hong inquiry officers regarding the incident. Ratchaphon told the Thai national media that he asked the police to investigate the case as the director of the hospital allegedly attacked the boy, confiscated his phone, and other offenses.

In this case, the hospital staff members executed abusive power to the victim, said Ratchaphon. Although the boy violated the hospital’s rules, the hospital must follow the law and enforce measures accordingly and should not act as the law itself, added Ratchaphon.

Kanlaya reportedly admitted that her son violated the hospital’s rule, however, the hospital executed their authority exceedingly. She further added that her son was not well-behaved and she admitted that, but the hospital should admit their wrongs also.

The boy stated that although the good citizens who helped rescue him after being stripped naked and his relatives also went to the hospital after the incident, they did not threaten the hospital by any means and were not motorbike gang members as accused. Moreover, the boy said that he did not know smoking inside the hospital was not allowed.

Police and legal agencies continue to investigate the incident as of press time.

Yes, but wanting to do it and actually hitting a child is two different things.

    A victim of sexual assault.
    A victim of physical assault.
    A victim of public shaming.
A victim of another sexual assault.

    Where are child protection/services?

oh for gods sake willy. your idiocy knows no bounds. you think he shouldnt be publicly shamed?

the kid is a menace. a violent 14 year old father, a spoilt, undisciplined and disrespectful little yob, and now the poor little snowflake (and his lawyer) are crying wolf.

the doc should have known better, (i.e. shouldnhave taken him round the back and given him a good hiding) but the kid deserved all he got. and the chickenhead parents of the little shit need a good kicking too.

    “Child Protection Act, B.E. 2546”.

Thailand's Child Protection Act, BE 2546 defines a child as anyone below the age of 18 who has not legally married.

I very much doubt that - a traditionally empowered right-winger... Move on, nothing to see here.

A wonderful vignette illustrating the sheer stupidity and dysfunction of this ridiculous little medieval country and its serf population.

They are all fucking aberrants in one way or another.

    violence only begets more violence.

the kid sounds like he had no chance. The mother needs to be arrested for sexual abuse of a minor and the hospital director should lose his job and be charged.

any other response is medieval and continues the flaws of Thailand that you are complaining about

he had every chance. he just never took them. there is no shortage of kids from terrible backgrounds that succeed in life.

its all too easy to label miscreants as victims and never responsible for their actions.
you seem to think he was never in his life given examples of "the right way" and that he did not know right from wrong, well of course he did, its just that he always chose the other way, the easy way, the selfish way, the "fun" way.

What ever else, there is simply no justification in stripping a 14 year old boy naked in public. Shocking.

Boy slapped by hospital director for smoking in restroom; heroin found in possession

Authorities are sending a bag containing suspected drugs, found in the clothing of a 14-year-old boy, for examination after the teen was slapped and ordered to walk naked out of hospital by the hospital’s director when caught smoking in the hospital’s restroom.

This is to verify its contents before filing charges, while additional witnesses will be summoned for questioning.

The case emerged when the mother of the 14-year-old reported to Thung Song Hong Police Station that her son had been assaulted by Maj. Gen. Dr. Rienthong Nanna, the director of Mongkutwattana Hospital. The boy was allegedly slapped, stripped, and expelled from the hospital for smoking in the restroom. Upon retrieving her son’s belongings, the mother found a ziplock bag containing a white powder and drug paraphernalia. The boy later admitted it was heroin he had bought from the local community.

Police Colonel Chitsanupong Suriyanon, the superintendent of Thung Song Hong Police Station, stated that the case will be split into two separate investigations: one where the boy is the victim of assault, and the other concerning the discovery of drugs in his clothing.

Regarding the assault, additional witnesses, who saw the boy walking naked outside the hospital, will be questioned today. Preliminary evidence suggests that Dr. Rienthong could face charges of assault and violation of personal liberty by forcing the boy to strip.

In the drug-related case, investigators will send the clothing, belongings, and the suspicious ziplock bag for forensic analysis to confirm the substance and check for fingerprints and DNA. Both the boy and hospital staff involved in seizing the clothing will be interviewed.

Moreover, as the boy has admitted to the media that he purchased the heroin for 50 baht from the community, investigators will call in the boy and his mother for further questioning with multidisciplinary professionals.

If the boy confesses to the police that the drugs are indeed his, his statement will be combined with the forensic results for legal proceedings.

Additionally, at 2 PM today, lawyer Ratchaphon Sirisakorn will accompany the 14-year-old to file a defamation complaint against Dr. Rienthong at Thung Song Hong Police Station for calling him a “punk” and “social trash.” -819 (TNA)

a disrespectful drugged up 14 y/o. little scrote, a gang member, already a father at 14, and has the gall to file a defamation complaint for being called a punk and social trash.

what on earth does one have to do these days to be accurately labelled as social trash?

    i rest my case.

... and in the spirit of fairness and decency will give willy the misguided blowhard liberal an opportunity to apologise and to admit to yet another misjudgement on his part.

But nowhere have I said he was an angel, he’s not. But that does not excuse the hospital director’s despicable actions.
