Cambodian police say they arrested the National Power Party leader at Phnom Penh International Airport last Thursday.
They say Sun Chanthy is accused of posting information on social media with the intent to incite the public and cause chaos in society.
The National Power Party has condemned the arrest as intimidation and called it a threat to the country's democratic process. It is calling for his unconditional release.
Sun Chanthy is the latest opposition party leader and senior official to be arrested by Cambodian authorities.
In the 2023 general election, the main opposition party was barred from running and the ruling Cambodian People's Party won a landslide victory.
