Two men were found dead in a water treatment pond that supplies drinking water to residents in the Sattahip district on Friday afternoon, April 5th, 2024.

Police were called to the scene at 3:30 PM after a passerby reported a foul odor coming from the pond located within the Sattahip Waterworks Office. Upon their arrival, authorities found two male bodies floating in the pond.

Rescue workers, who arrived later, retrieved the bodies from the pond. The bodies were decomposed and showed no signs of foul play. The victims still could not be identified at the time of reporting, but police believed they might be local fishermen who had snuck into the area to fish in the pond.

Police suspected that one of the victims might have fallen into the pond, which has a sloped embankment and reportedly lacks any ability to easily get out. Subsequently, the other fisherman may have attempted to help his companion but accidentally fell in as well. Both men then likely drowned due to exhaustion.

According to officials at the Sattahip Waterworks Office, fishing is prohibited in the pond, yet people trespass there to fish illegally all the time. A clear sign warning people against playing in the pond or fishing is right next to the pond.

This incident sparked concerns among Sattahip residents about their tap water quality. In response, the Sattahip Waterworks Office posted a video and photos on their Facebook page on April 6th, showcasing the cleaning and disinfection of the pond.

The officials also announced that they have conducted water quality tests and promised to share the results publicly.
