Cheeky Monkey Steals Corn From Jomtien Ramen Restaurant

A macaque monkey, known locally as “Jao Jo,” snuck into the kitchen of a ramen restaurant in Jomtien and grabbed a piece of corn before escaping onto a power line.

Jao Jo has become notorious in the Jomtien area for his thieving habits. Some locals have even given him a title, “Jao Jo, the Jomtien Menace,” after he repeatedly stole food and goods from locals and tourists. He often climbed up a power pole after committing his fearless thievery to eat his stolen snacks in peace and out of human reach.

On April 10th, 2024, The Pattaya News reporters visited the ramen restaurant, “Street Ramen,” located on Jomtien Road opposite the D Varee Jomtien Hotel in Banglamung district, Chonburi province. This restaurant is a regular target of Jao Jo’s thieving antics, said Mr. Thepporn Suttirattanaphirak, the Food and Beverage Manager at Street Ramen.

Mr. Thepporn went on to say that the monkey often comes to the restaurant to steal fruit, food, and drinks from the kitchen area. Sometimes, he even steals food from tourists who are dining at the restaurant. Although he does not attack anyone, this has caused fear and anxiety among the restaurant staff and tourists, as sometimes Jao Jo even bares his fangs and threatens people aggressively to get food.

Mr. Thepporn and other concerned locals are asking the city to take responsibility for this problem and capture the monkey. They want Jao Jo to be relocated to a more suitable place to prevent further disturbances or possible physically harmful incidents.

If the owner had half a brain cell he'd realise he can mint it making that a tourist attraction.

The chinkies and Thais will pile in to get a shot of it nicking their noodles.

No, monkeys are cute but there assholes.I had 1 in Lao , not my idea but Mrs bld is impulsive and bought one of a guy at a set of traffic lights for 1000 baht from some guy, we bonded at first and I used to take him out bar hopping and he enjoyed a drink but couldn't handle it and turned into a right coont. Throwing beer glasses around etc. Eventually he got barred from most pubs so I stopped taking the kunt..in the texmex bar he even took a wee monkey dump on the bar but strangely didn't get barred from there. They liked him. Had the fucker for years but would never have another one there wild animals and should be left in the wild. Our bad for buying him but by then it would of been hard to put him back in the wild.
