Two taxi drivers who attacked a mobile application taxi driver in Thalang surrendered to police, after it was revealed the previous suspect who surrendered and took full responsibility was a scapegoat and was not involved in the assault.
The victim has confirmed to police that Mr. Gam, who surrendered previously, is not the real person who attacked him. He was just one of several people who tried to stop the argument during the incident and later decided to take responsibility for unknown reasons. Police continued their investigation after CCTV revealed that Gam was a scapegoat and arrest warrants were issued by the Phuket Provincial Court for the two real suspects.
On Tuesday (December 12th) the two wanted suspects surrendered to the Cherng Talay Police. They were only identified as Mr. Dom, 49, and Mr. Det, 37. They are facing charges of inflicting bodily harm causing severe injuries. The two suspects have denied the charges and told police that they did not attack the victim. Police, however, did not believe their claims and pledged to investigate further.
The Cherng Talay Police told the Phuket Express that the two suspects had previously assaulted another mobile application taxi, a female, in June of this year in Bang Tao, Cherng Talay. They faced legal action in the previous incident too, although the exact penalties for that incident were not revealed to the press.
It was unclear if Mr. Gam would face legal charges for lying to police that he was responsible for the incident when he wasn’t, The Phuket Express adds.
