French Tourist Falls to Death at Pattaya Hotel

A French tourist tragically plummeted to his death at a hotel in Pattaya in the early hours of Friday morning. An initial investigation by Pattaya police suggests that the victim may have jumped purposefully.

The victim, whose identity is withheld pending family notification, fell from the sixth floor of a 4-star hotel on Soi Pattaya 7, Nongprue sub-district, Banglamung district, Chonburi province. Pattaya police and Sawang Boriboon rescue workers rushed to the incident scene upon receiving the notification at 4:36 AM on November 17th.

At the hotel, whose name is withheld pending an investigation, the body of the 43-year-old French man was found deceased on the premises. Pattaya police interviewed the hotel clerks and learned that they heard something hitting the ground which triggered them to go outside.

Upon finding the victim, the hotel clerks immediately contacted the rescue team. However, the victim succumbed to his wounds shortly before the authorities arrived.

Pol. Col. Thanaphong Phothi, chief of Pattaya police, stated that a preliminary review of the hotel CCTV footage showed that the victim left his room on the 4th floor and took an elevator to the 6th floor. Shortly thereafter, footage showed him falling from the 6th floor and colliding with the ground. This footage has been preserved as evidence for the ongoing investigation.

Pol. Col. Thanaphong initially believed that the victim may have decided to jump by himself. His body was taken to the Institute of Forensic Medicine, Police Hospital, to undergo a post-mortem examination. His family and embassy will be contacted.

As Houellebecq said in his novel Atomised, Pattaya is a place where there are no more illusions and where his hero went to die.

It would have been more accurate to say Thailand, perhaps the most cynical country on the planet and where hypocrisy is its society’s lifeblood.

You're actually taking something from a novel about Pattaya and pretending it's about the whole of Thailand?

An amusing vignette of, well, just what you do.

Novels about Pattaya tend to be absolute shite. Surprised Sausages admits to reading one, let alone quoting it.

It is and you live in the heart of it yet deny it and then claim to have high end people living in your complex.

It's like that documentary I watched about old elephants...they migrate to a specific area and die.

    Pattaya draws that crowd.

You gormless septic oaf, it’s a myth, elephants do not journey to die in a specific place. There is no graveyard as such. They are pretty much always on the move and die where they’re at, usually of starvation.

    You fucking boonie dwelling halfwit.

Houellebecq - very much an acquired taste - not to lumped with 'Pattaya Novelists' I re-read 'Atomised' only last month. File under 'Weird Sh*t" !

Hardly weird, he’s not a surrealist, nor particularly avant garde. Atomised follows a conventional structure and conforms to an orthodox narrative. What was weird about it?

houellebecq is certainly an acquired taste, and atomised was nihilistic and hard going.

but his novel about a muslim majority parliament in france is easier, more engaging and certainly a more prescient tale. it is called submission, and is about the decline of the west and its utter helplessness as it is outflanked by the pernicious rise of islamic influence in western society.

a trend that is happening in more than one western city these days.
