Thai death toll in Israel increases to 24, over 7,000 want to be flown home

The Thai death toll in the Hamas attacks on Israel has risen to 24, while the numbers of injured and detained remain at 16 each. More than 7,000 Thais have applied to be evacuated back to Thailand, Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin told the media today (Saturday).

Stressing the urgent need to repatriate Thais, the prime minister said that the government has contacted several commercial airlines, including Thai Airways International, Nok Air and Air Asia, which have agreed to fly Thai evacuees out of Israel. A Chinese airline, Spices, has offered an Airbus-340, which can accommodate up to 300 passengers.

As Thailand has maintained its neutral stance in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, he said that the government has not encountered any problems in seeking overflight permissions to evacuate Thais from Israel.

Meanwhile, Public Health Minister Cholnan Srikaew said the second group of 56 Thais, including two suffering gunshot wounds, arrived at the Suvarnabhumi international airport last evening.

The two injured, one a native of Nakhon Phanom and another a native of Khon Kaen, were initially taken to Bang Phli Hospital in Samut Prakan, after all the arrivals were screened by health officials. The two were, however, discharged from the hospital today, after they had expressed their wish to receive treatment in their hometowns.

Cholnan said that 22 of the evacuees were given psychological assessments, three of whom were found to be suffering from stress, while five others suffered from anxiety. They were given medication before being sent home, where their local hospitals will follow up on their condition.

The third group of evacuees is due to arrive at U-Tapao airport in Chon Buri on Sunday.

Dr. Pongkasem Khaimook, deputy permanent secretary of public health, meanwhile, said that the Mental Health Department has set guidelines for the treatment of the evacuees, divided into three phases, namely the impact phase, which involves psychological first aid treatment during the first 24-72 hours of their return, a post-impact phase and the recovery phase.

He explained that, during the impact phase, the evacuees may experience shock, anger, sorrow or anxiety, adding that psychological first aid treatment will be provided.

The post-impact phase covers the first 2-4 weeks following the violence in Israel, when the evacuees may suffer from depression, feel sad or anxious. Medication is not needed, but peer support will help, said Dr. Pongkasem.

In the recovery phase, which is about one month after the violence, he said that some evacuees, who are unable to adjust to the new environment, may require psychological or social rehabilitation.

The Mental Health Department has opened a new hotline, 1323, to provide counselling for Thais who are still in Israel and may be experiencing psychological problems.

With all them religions Christian Jewish Muslim centred on Jerusalem you would think god would protect the so called holy land.

Seems 3 possibilities to my limited brain

They ain't praying enough for neighbours, peace love and tolerance
God is deaf or is a Moron/Mormon take your pick

Or IMHO religion is part of the problem

Listen to George Dubya Bush you may seem tad crazy , listen to burning bushes we know you are.

Listen to a prophet who married a child signals more like Gary Glitter or a catholic priest.

We laugh the cargo cults "him belong big fella , but it's all voodoo, bells chants, mantras, magic words in dead languages like a tired old conjurer juggling balls and sawing the synapses in half, to save the masses from having to think.

Wail at a wall seems like a complaint letter to the mason more appropriate.
Recycle the kippahs, prayer mats and bibles and do unto others as you would be done by, it's what our grandmothers knew , hard to practice but even a child of 10 can tell right from wrong surely.

As for Gaza a Messianic ending.

A total of 3,329 Thai workers and students have now been flown back to Thailand from Israel, including 367 who arrived yesterday (Sunday) on two flights, according to the Thai Foreign Ministry.

Another 515 Thai evacuees are due back today on two more flights, with the first, from Dubai, expected to touch down at Suvarnabhumi international airport at about 4pm with 280 passengers on board. The second flight, from Tel Aviv, is expected to land at about 11pm carrying 235 passengers.

The second set of the remains of Thais killed in the fighting in Israel are scheduled to arrive in Bangkok this Wednesday. The first eight sets of remains were flown back from Israel last week. Altogether 31 Thais were killed, 18 injured and 19 abducted by Hamas.

More than 8,000 have registered to be repatriated.

One of the returnees, Nitat Panthasri, knelt on the tarmac of Don Mueang airport upon his arrival yesterday, to pay respects to the guardian of the kingdom for his safe return.

He said he managed to escape from Hamas gunmen when they attacked his worker camp.

The wife's cousin's husband returned at the weekend. He only had 3 months of his contract left so took the opportunity of a free flight home. Nowhere near the fighting but there was word of more Thais being killed. Many Thais over there saying they have lost contact with friends, mobiles not being answered etc..
So, expect that death toll to rise.

MSM media are saying the evacuated thais can't wait to get back there , there on decent money. Sounds like more bullshit from the msm to me but I wish them luck. Your wife's cousin must of weighed up the options and made the right decision. Good one

I found out today that one of my Thai niece's ex-husbands was one of the victims. He was blown up in one of the rocket attacks. He was actually a bit of a playboy and screwed around, which is why he became an ex about 15 years ago.

Anyway, there have been rumours circulating about Israel providing compensation packages for those killed. Still rumours, so won't post the exact figures I heard, however, the package is said to include a lump sum plus a monthly allowance, which depends on number of dependents (Mother, Wife, Children etc.).

The funeral is tomorrow, wife will be back in village on Sunday, so I may get some more info on figures.

Anyone else heard of compensation being given?

Thai workers in Israel eligible for compensation from both Thailand and Israel: Labour Ministry

    TUESDAY, OCTOBER 10, 2023

Phairoj Chotikasatien, the ministry’s permanent secretary, said....

Thai workers affected by the unrest will receive life insurance premiums in Israel, while the injured will be provided free treatment until they recover.

In Thailand, those who fall under the fund for assisting workers overseas will receive compensation.

Those who have been injured will get 15,000 baht per person, 30,000 baht per person in case of disability, and 40,000 baht per person in case of death, he explained.

He added that the compensation will be adjusted in line with the workers’ injuries and occupational risks as the regulations were adopted many years ago.
