Thread: Pattaya Speedboat Operators Engage in Wild Viral Brawl at Bali Hai Pier Arguing Over

Two groups of rival speedboat operators in Pattaya engaged in a widely filmed and shared viral fistfight over who would transport a group of tourists on Saturday evening, August 26th.

The fight broke out at 5 PM yesterday at Bali Hai Pier, panicking numerous tourists who were waiting to board a ride to Koh Larn.

The incident, which was captured in a 5-minute-long video clip, involved two groups of speedboat operators at the pier. The groups were heatedly arguing about who would get the money and rights from a group of unidentified tourists who wanted to travel to Koh Larn on speedboats, before they started throwing punches.

Officials at the pier tried to warn the men to calm down, but to no avail. The fight only dispersed after seeing Pattaya Police show up after an urgent phone call from pier safety officers.

A local resident, who wished not to be named, revealed to The Pattaya News that it was their second fight of the day, adding the first one happened just in the morning.


The resident said that brawls between speedboat operators vying for the business of tourists who want to take a quick ride to Koh Larn are a recurring problem in Pattaya. They could significantly damage the city’s reputation as a safe tourist destination, the resident said, because Bali Hai Pier is usually packed with innocent tourists.

The resident suggested that it is critical for the authorities to take these issues seriously in order to prevent such violent incidents from escalating further.


Pattaya police are reportedly looking into the matter.

I'm not sure, the years I've spent in the Budleigh area, Christmas was a time to avoid Fore Street at Christmas. Once a few of the local businesses hospitality paper cups of mulled wine had taken their toll, clenched fists hiding roasted chestnuts came into play, and murderous glances were given at those who coveted a corner table in the Salterton Arms, to a strain of 'King Wenceslas' from the speakers in the Chinese takeway in Fore Street. Absolute debauchery.

Budleigh is among my favourite haunts, chez West country, including Branscombe, Seaton and Beer. The common factor in all of them is the beach is mostly large pebbles and therefore families with younger children tend to avoid ensuring a more peaceful and relaxed ambiance.
Bizarrely, Budleigh beach had a naturist section which seemed to comprise mostly geriatric poofs but their bit was pretty much obliterated by an avalanche of crumbling Jurassic soil and rocks a few years back. I expect Cyril knows all about it.
The Creamery ice cream shop in the High Street was an absolute peach but the owner was trying to sell. Not sure if it’s still there. He always staffed the place with an endless supply of gorgeous posh tottie in the full flush of newly post adolescent prime. The flavours they created were truly innovative but for me their Lemon Meringue Pie version was a triumph.
Budleigh on a grey November afternoon was however grim indeed …pewter skies, grey seas, shabby, grey Victorian buildings peppered with seagull shit and the omnipresent threat of rain.

Sadly SA, you are the likely source, get a diaper change. Many have a good life here, sufficiently removed from the day to day grief and angst that may affect some living in a boiling cauldron of Thailand's less desirables. That said, I do have quite a few friends who live in Pattaya and its environs, and strangely, they don't seem to encounter the sad stories within the Pattaya press, and have pleasant times in what appear to be good restaurants and bars.

Haha. Funny how one can look at this. I moved here with my wife as we both saw numerous opportunities to live easier, no debt and make our money work for us. It was a cognizant decision. I could have stayed in California no problem. I think your problem is only you live and see what's a product of your environment. Pattaya is not a place I would or could ever call home. I most certainly would not have uprooted my California life to move there and be trapped in a Condo.

As PAG and others have said, many of us live a very nice easy going life and all the riff raff you are seemingly neck deep in, we do not see. It's just news. It would be like living in a ghetto in the country you grew up in. Most people work to get out.

I wouldn't change a thing about our decision to move here. I happen to like it and enjoy working for a California technology company. Eventually I will retire and relax even more than I do now.

Why “strangely”? None of my circle have met anything untoward personally here either, the place is no more problematic than anywhere else, and we all pretty much poodle on in comfortable circumstances.
