Pattaya Police Praised by Russian Couple for Swift Recovery of Stolen Purse

A grateful Russian couple lauded Pattaya Police after the officers were quickly able to retrieve a stolen purse for them. Two Thai men were arrested.

The officers on Friday, March 3rd, announced the arrest of two alleged thieves, Mr. Pitak Duangsawat, 23, and Mr. Peerayut Luang-in, 22. The two Thais were accused by a Russian woman, Mrs. Larisa Sobolevskaia, of snatching her purse while she was walking down Soi Naklua 18/1 in the Naklua sub-district of Banglamung district.

According to police, they recieved a theft report from Mrs. Larisa saying her purse was snatched by two men on motorbikes on March 1st around 8:30 PM. The woman had just left a convenience store and was heading to her hotel in Soi Naklua 18/1 when the two suspects approached her from behind, and one of them yanked her purse.

The bag contained a pink 35,000-baht iPhone 11, 3,000 baht cash, and some undisclosed Russian cash. After the incident, Mrs. Larisa contacted Pattaya Police, and the authorities immediately began hunting for the two suspects.

CCTV recordings showed that the snatchers, after grabbing the woman’s purse, fled to the end of Soi Naklua 18/1 and then escaped to Soi Naklua 20. Their escape was clearly captured by many CCTV cameras, leading to their swift arrest in Soi Wat Sawang Fha 3 located about 4.5 km from the incident scene.

The suspects, Mr. Pitak and Mr. Peerayut, were found with their grey Honda PCX and Red Honda Click 125i. The arresting officers searched their bodies and found Mrs. Larisa’s iPhone 11 and her dark Bameiciaca purse. The phone was wrapped in a blue cloth hidden in Pitak’s body.

According to the police report, Pitak and Peerayut admitted to snatching the Russian tourist’s purse but claimed it was their first time stealing. However, Pattaya Police remained skeptical and charged them with theft using motorbikes as a getaway vehicle. The suspects were being detained, pending further legal action.

At the press briefting, Mrs. Larisa and her husband met with the police to give them a flower bouquet. The two expressed their gratitude for the police’s timely action that could swiftly solve the purse thief.
