Online learning reintroduced at Bangkok school after hundreds of students, staff get

After eight weeks of on-site classes, Bangkok Christian College has decided to reintroduce online learning, from July 11th until July 19th, after 688 students and 70 staff members were found to be infected with COVID-19.

In a written notification to all parents, the school said that infections had increased significantly, despite the fact that the school had already taken the initial step of suspending classes, in which more than 10% of students were infected, for five days.

Although the suspension has succeeded in controlling the spread of the disease to a certain extent, the school said that infections among students and staff have continued to increase, making it necessary for the school to reintroduce online learning.

On-site classes will resume on July 20th, said the school as it urged parents to reconsider their plans for long holiday travel during the suspension period and to protect themselves, as well as their children, if they do go ahead with any planned trips.

Classrooms will be disinfected on daily basis and communal extra-curricular activities will be curtailed, said the school.

Meanwhile, it is reported the Army Commander-in-Chief General Narongpan Jitkaewtae, Tourism and Sports Minister Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn and Permanent Secretary of the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration Khachit Chatchavanich have caught COVID-19.

General Narongpan tested positive after his return from an official visit to Malaysia on July 1st, while Phiphat said he thinks that he contracted the disease from a family member, adding that he is now taking a rest with a sore throat and fatigue.

Khachit said he might have been infected when he attended an oath-taking ceremony and parade of the boy scouts recently.

Thailand reported 2,366 COVID-19 cases and 20 deaths today. According to the Ministry of Public Health, the trend is becoming upward again, and daily figures are expected to peak at about 4,000 cases in September.

How is it less accountability? And less work? Have you ever done it?

Less accountability? For you? Yes. Less work? For you, yes.

You make it sound like online working is a mystery.

Would guess the cries of despair are in relation to having a lil ragamuffin in the house all day everyday.

Having had that for over a year I'd certainly be joining the cries of Noooo if having to go back to it.

While there were pros to the kid learning from home, after a year the cons definitely outweighed them.

I believe most teachers who enjoy their job would rather be in a classroom. Online is not a fun gig having done it the last 2 plus years.

    I don't think so.

She sat at her little desk having lessons on her tablet. I sat on my sofa gossiping like a girlscout on various forums. Occasionally passing her notes or pulling her hair to make it seem more like real school.

You get a lie in and don't have to travel to school and back in Bangkok rush hours

You only have to wear a pair of underpants and a shirt.

You don't have to take the kids on cross country

You can't be held accountable when you're not there standing in the doorway to the boys showers to get brushed up against

I did 3 months as an substitute teacher online and it blew chunks. I'd rather go through the hassle of going to school to be honest. Zero student interaction in the majority of the classes, it was like being a DJ on the radio.

But I reckon you have a bit of integrity and did the job well. Not every teacher is going to be like you.

Willy looks for tar for his very broad brush.

    Flattering to deceive.

Every single teacher ever born rejoices that he's not like poisonous, judgemental layabout willy.

If only you had completed a few extra GCSEs back in the day you might have had more options than being an English teecher, Cryille. Don’t be all judgmental and jealous on me because of your poor life choices.

    Back to that again.

    You are completely deluded.

    As well as semi-literate.

There's no way GCSEs were a thing when you were old enough to go to school.

They weren't even GCSEs when I was at school, and he's 7 years older than me.

I hope the next 7 years don't bring brain fade so severe that I'm left on a par with Willy.
