More than 50 crocodiles seized from farm in Banglamung by Thai Fisheries department

A Chinese man and a Thai woman have been arrested at a crocodile farm in Banglamung, resulting in more than 50 crocodiles being seized for allegedly not having proper licenses for the reptiles.


Yesterday, (February 18th), a team from the Nongprue Police, Immigration Police, and officers from the Thai Fisheries Department inspected a crocodile farm in the Nong Plalai sub-district.


Mr. Yun Weixia, 63, a Chinese national, and a Thai woman identified by Immigration Police only as Ms. Lamduan, 53, were present at the farm, naming themselves as the owners of the establishment. More than fifty crocodiles were found at the sprawling farm complex.

The two owners said the farm used to welcome Chinese tour groups but now the farm has been closed for almost two years due to Covid-19 related measures. The crocodiles were, according to the owners, bought two years ago with licenses from the Fisheries Department.

However, the pair were unable to present the reptile licenses, unable to explain why the licenses were purchased after the farm was closed, and Fisheries Department employees were unable to locate records relating to the licenses. All crocodiles, numbering over fifty, were seized, to be brought to a legal crocodile farm in Chonburi temporarily, and the two owners were taken to a police station for further interviews and to determine the actual legal status of the farm and the crocodiles.
