Let's be honest here. People typically use the same mask over and over and over. I watch people go into restaurants, drop the mask on the table or shake it around. How effective are they really?

I am to the point now where I think you can be a carrier of the scariant and not know it( just like the flu). If you are not vaccinated you need to take precautions to protect that choice. Doesn't mean the entire world has to fall into some blanket mandate for their choice. If you have other physical ailments again you need to consider how much risk you are willing to take going out and about now. Most the old folks I know of, stay home and rightfully so. Just like most do in the states for flu season.

I just think we have reached a point of no value. It is here to stay in some fashion. Lockdowns, constraints on travel, mandated PCR tests, restaurant and business closures are simply pointless and detrimental.

But the basics of mask wearing, familiar to Thais from SARS, are lost on you?

I mean, I explained to you why just letting people in crowded malls without masks is not sensible, and that not wearing a mask is an act of puerile selfishness.

After nearly two years you apparently haven’t come to terms with this.

In the UK England has 1 in 35 with COVID. Wales 1 in 45, Scotland 1 in 65. Guess which places have stricter rules on mixing and masks?

Preliminary studies suggest the Omicron coronavirus variant is milder, with fewer people getting severely ill than with other variants.

But a massive wave of infections would still mean many people needing hospital care, as well as lots of doctors and nurses being off sick with Covid.

I guess Rudolph already had Omicron and did even know it

What are the main Omicron symptoms?
Using the most recent data from London, where Omicron prevalence is higher than other regions of the UK, ZOE data scientists analysed symptom data from positive cases recorded.
    The top 5 symptoms were:

    • Runny nose
    • Headache
    • Fatigue (mild or severe)
    • Sneezing
    • Sore throat

Loss of appetite and brain fog were also identified as common symptoms.

But you still can't read or comprehend the article Rudolph. Your nose is blinding you, turn it off

LONDON—People infected with the Omicron variant of coronavirus are between 50% to 70% less likely to be admitted to the hospital than those who caught earlier strains, according to a new U.K. study that adds to a growing body of evidence of Omicron’s reduced severity in populations with high levels of immunity.
The key word is high immunity. Now can you figure out to what happens to those people with low immunity?

Do you actually read what you are posting here, or does your comprehension stop after the first 2 sentences?

Sir Patrick wrote in The Times: 'Those who want to engage seriously with a debate that affects us all need to consider all the data in the round, not only those that fit an argument and ignore the rest. That is not science.' He also defended the publication of the SAGE 'reasonable worst-case scenarios that have been attacked as scaremongering by the right'.

It comes after a key Government report revealed yesterday that Omicron is up to 70 per cent less likely to cause hospital admission than Delta - though SAGE warned it may need to be 90 per cent milder to avoid the NHS coming under unsustainable pressure.

I gotta say. There are quite a few that have lined up to drink the Covid Kool-Aid.

Let me ask a different question to those who think all the constraints are completely justifiable and should be adhered too..... So when does it stop? Is this it? Every time some asshat shoots up a red flare and states "Covid" which then immediately incites panic over a new scariant do we need to lock the planet down? Do we all need to shelter in place? PCR tests for everyone? Are you really afraid of dieing? What is sad to me now is when people see people not wearing a mask they stare them down with hate and call them irresponsible and selfish.

We've reached a point where plenty of prople are happy with the status quo and/or governments and the press have caused so much panic with project fear that they feel any return to normal life would see the beginning of the end of the world.

For a virus with an average age of death of over 80 years old (from which age group 90 -95% are expected to beat).

Which well over 99% of the general population survive.

Which many people don't even know they have.

Which is now, quite literally, a cold in its current scariant.

    The world has gone mad.

Anyway, Merry Christmas all. I'm going out and I won't be wearing a mask. Risk! Risk! Risk!

Yep Hal. We have reached that point where the sheeple...oops People are now living in constant fear.

It's the new norm. Rather than challenge it, just suit up and comply.

I think its funny that a new scariant hits the press. The fear and panic sets in. After a few weeks or months they start back tracking saying.."Well it's not as bad as us politicians thought but you need to be very afraid of dieing". Then comes the data and facts in who died, who is in the hospital.

Now that peoole and scientists have realised that Omicron is nothing more than a cold, they're now trotting out the potential huge numbers of deaths bullshit. This won't be enough, so there'll be another scariaht along soon. Mark my words.

I'll take the 2 jabs and I'll reluctantly wear a mask inside if I have to. My limit has been reached with talk of compulsory boosters, lockdowns and further travel restrictions though.

Let the old and vulnerable isolate if they want to, which many don't, and let the rest of us get on with our lives.

Is that really too much to ask?

Indeed, my choice, so let the world have its choices back.

I'll take the risk against a virus that has a plus 99% survival rate, thanks.

Btw, nice chatting. Sorry we called each other a couple of names earlier.

Londoners during the Blitz were in a similar predicament. The sirens went off and they all went into the bomb shelters and put their gas masks on. They followed curfews and lived through rationing. You would call them sheeple, following the politicians, living in fear. History shows they were made of harder stuff than you. They knew there was an endgame, they preserved at great cost to themselves and their freedoms, and emerged into a better world.

In comparison you find it difficult to wear a mask (to protect others, something you fail to understand even after 2 years) and whinge about not having the right to infect and kill the weaker members of our societies.

I'd be inclined to think you were a whinging Millennial except the Millennials at least are educated and know how to wear a mask.

Apparently it is as people like us who now challenge the Kool Aid drinkers are selfish and uneducated. Funny how that goes.

I will begrudgingly comply with the nonsense and due to all the travel constraints and BS pretty much stay home. Ideal??? No! But God forbid that I might kill someone by carrying a scariant of covid... not sure I can sleep at night. I wonder now how all of us emotionally survived all the yearly Flu season? Did I carry it and kill someone? OMG!

And to the people who say 2 years ago to me....just STOP!!!. As I have said numerous times, when this first was identified I took all necessary precautions for myself, family and society. I stayed home. I wore a N95 mask. I washed constantly with 70% alcohol stuff. I understood that with no vaccine to at least mitigate the spread I needed to do my part. So here we are.... 2 years later. Same shit, dfferent scariant but yet I have complied and vaccinated. So do we still play this Fear game?

Do you have a link to the average age of death being over 80? I was under the impression covid was hitting middle aged and younger people since delta. It has certainly put them in hospital and that is where resources are limited.

I think a lot depends on where you are and the proximity of people. There are times when I wear a mask outdoors and times where we don't bother entering places because they are too crowded. I only fly based on knowing everyone has had a PCR test. It isn't foolproof so we isolate for a week after anyway but at least the risk is much less.

I had a good friend have his lungs badly scarred due to Covid. He took the right precautions but caught it from his son who was asymptomatic.

Governments want to open up, covid is costing them heavily. Just because you haven't been affected doesn't mean the problem doesn't exist.

It's not funny, you are selfish and uneducated. You're just too uneducated to know how uneducated you are. I guess there's no cure for that.

Here you go, Troy (from the UK's Office for National Statistics). This is from January 21, so there may have been some alteration since DELTA, but we've been protected with vaccines too, and it also hit the elderly in places like India very hard, so i imagine the picture hasn't changed greatly on a global scale.

Average age of those who had died with COVID-19 - Office for National Statistics

This is also a paper that was published on the fatality rate (not yet peer reviewed)

Infection fatality rate of COVID-19 in community-dwelling populations with emphasis on the elderly: An overview | medRxiv

Twenty-three seroprevalence surveys representing 14 countries were included. Across all countries, the median IFR in community-dwelling elderly and elderly overall was 2.4% (range 0.3%-7.2%) and 5.5% (range 0.3%-12.1%). IFR was higher with larger proportions of people >85 years. Younger age strata had low IFR values (median 0.0027%, 0.014%, 0.031%, 0.082%, 0.27%, and 0.59%, at 0-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, and 60-69 years).
