I've posted countless facts here from various UK government agencies, which you originally asked for and then chose to ignore, before referring to me as an anti-vaxxer. You have offered nothing in return.

Btw, now I'm on my 3rd jab, I'm pretty sure my attitude to "risk" for a virus which has an average death rate of over 80 years old will see me just fine, thanks.

I have no recollection of asking you for anything. All I can tell you is that every fact posted has been read and underestimated or assumed false proportions by others who have read it selectively.
I have suggested that a number of people have a different and less well researched opinion than mine, and that I’m ok with that.
Nothing more, nothing less. Your opinion will not change my life, but it’s not worth falling out over.

I never referred to you or anyone else as an anti vaxxer. If that’s the way you chose to understand that comment, no wonder your research skills are selective, and your opinions are based on confirmation bias.

No intention of falling out with you. I don't fall out with people on here, but you need to know that I am always right.

Once we've got that established, things will be hunky dory.

The article quite literally says in the headline that half of colds in the UK are likely to be Covid.

You want more though? Let me help you out. This is from the WHO website before we had the common cold arrive in the form of the latest scariant:

Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) is an infectious disease caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus. Most people infected with the virus will experience mild to moderate respiratory illness and recover without requiring special treatment.

This is from the Manchester Evening News on how to spot a cold from Covid

Symptoms of Omicron, Delta, the cold, and flu and how they're different - Manchester Evening News

The original article should have sufficed, but would you also like me to re-post the stats showing that the current version of the cold has an even lower hospital rate than the original bit of flu (70% less likely to be hospitalised), which itself had a mortality rate of less than 1% (with even the elderly having a survival rate of around 95%).

Happy to help if so. Facts, not fear. And I've got loads of facts- backed up by science.

Yep and the only reason people believe differently now is because they (News and Politicians) keep at it relentlessly saying "OMFG...the sky is falling and you will die. Lock down, masks, alcohol, temperature testing, PCR test mandates blah blah and people line up to believe it all.

Funny now how people fear passing on Covid to others but gave a rats ass about flu season. Why is that?

I will believe the science - wanting to believe it is the same as the common cold does not make it so

On 15 December, South Africa’s Dr Salim Abdool Karim, who co-authored Omicron SARS-CoV-2 variant: a new chapter in the COVID-19 pandemic in the Lancet, told a global Zoom audience:

“I have no idea what’s in store for us as far as long Covid is concerned … It’s a really important question, and it’s particularly so because Omicron is spreading so fast and so widely so quickly – the number of people getting infected is so big that … if it’s a common consequence of even mild infection, you can imagine, even if in 10% of people, there’s going to be a lot of people with long Covid. It’s certainly something we want to keep a beady eye out on.”

Totally JP. I saw a comment on a UK website saying that we must all wear masks to protect against the latest scariant because 50 people a day are dying.

28,000 people are estimated to have died from flu during the winter of 2018/19 in the US.

Are flu deaths not as important or something?

I'm not wanting to believe anything. I'm reading the stats and science.

New U.K. Study Reinforces Conclusion That Omicron Causes Less Severe Disease - WSJ

And, as I said earlier, higher numbers of a common cold doesn't mean that it will be reelected in higher numbers in hospital as we've seen in South Africa.

Because. It. Is. A. Cold. Most people do not need hospital treatment for a cold and the number of people who may do so is not infinite.

    Duh.

I can't help with that question, I'm afraid. Speculation and conjecture isn't what I'm particularly concerned with here.

I can help with statistics though.

I wear a mask when I go indoors where there are people not of my household - I do not go places where there are a lot of people outside - crowds at some event or place

when I am at work I wear a mask everywhere , inside and outside , unless I am in my office alone or in my camp room

In the spirit of debate let's not call each other names. I think this is a very good discussion and enjoy the opinions of the posters.

@ Baldrick. In regards to wearing a mask indoors, what did you do before covid when flu season kicked off and people were dieing? Were you concerned about a mask then? I seriously doubt it. We all went on about our lives and people died of the flu. It seldom made news in the states and globally. It occasionally surfaced in some random Stat somewhere that nobody cared about. I agree from the data provided that this latest scariant ( I like that term Hal) is more readily transferred but there have been flu seasons like that as well. Were masks mandated then?

My issue with wearing a mask is very few if any are the N95 masks. They are just like a paint mask or a nurse mask. Should we mandate N95 for everyone or risk being alienated from going anywhere. I recently flew 26 hours across the pacific and had to wear a GD mask for the entire trip. At layover we were all treated like lepers. Again I agreed with the controls when it started, I do not now. There is a vaccine. Take it and move on. Now this is just simple fear mongering and CYA.

no - I would have rationalised that by saying I did not have the flu
with the current situation where many of the people who have covid do not know they have it , then it is more efficient for everyone to just wear a mask when indoors with people not of their household

the n95 masks stop airborne droplets from entering , the soft cloth masks minimise the airborne droplets from leaving
