    The COVID-2019 Thread-c1_1904425-jpg

The government has unveiled a face mask designed specifically for people who are hearing impaired, with the goal of making their lives easier during the virus outbreak.
People who communicate using sign language with the hearing-impaired also read lips and facial movements to get the full message. But with facemasks obscuring the lips, communication is hindered, said Anira Thinon, deputy director-general of the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities.
The mask is designed with a transparent window in the middle, which is large enough to reveal lip movements, she said, adding that the design was adapted from similar face masks for the deaf used in other countries.
The special masks are produced with the standard three-layered cloth which can effectively keep respiratory droplets from spreading, she said.
The masks are very important for not only deaf people but also sign language interpreters and others who have to communicate regularly with people with hearing impairments, she said.
Ms Anira said the department plans to begin producing the special face masks later this month for free distribution to sign language interpreters and poor deaf people. Some of them will be put on sale as well, she added.
The department also urges members of the public to donate materials for producing the special face masks for the deaf, so that it can supply them free to all of those in need, she said.
Ms Anira said the department is also launching an online tutorial on how to make face masks for the deaf.
The department has further opened a Facebook page dedicated to selling products made by people with disabilities. There are about 382,000 deaf people in the country.

Don't be snide. They showed rare honesty here.

Good idea but would those masks in the pic work? Not being a lipreader myself, surely the window needs to be clear and unobstructed, while these are reflective. Maybe even a bit bigger to accommodate angles.

    Again....the bug isn't political.
It's obviously a broad societal thing.

    A backward lot.

The US doing the world proud; bigger is better...

South Korea should be out of the top 30 by Friday, and, worth noting, even with the relative success the Korean government has pushed back relaxing the social distancing measures (such as schools/unis opening) by a couple more weeks. Such talk in the UK/US is extremely premature.

We are becoming immune to the statistics that we are confronted with everyday.

if we torture the numbers enough they will tell us anything we want.

The lockdowns should only be advised for over 75’s - let the world get back to work.

The politicians are suffering from the paralysis of analysis and in most cases are too scared to lead.

Australia has had 71 deaths, nothing out of a population of 25million. More than 400,000 tests carried out less than 1.6% testing positive.

Time to open again for business.

Well, statistics can be presented in such a way as to advocate whichever or whatever platform you decide.

The cat is out of the bag and Covid-19 is everywhere. Sheltering-in-Place should be a chosen solution for any persons - highly recommended for the elderly and immune system compromised. Mandatory for none.

The damage is already done - the medical damage, lives have been lost and a few families devastated - but, most of the fatalities are the elderly and their remaining time on earth was limited. Each death can have a photo and a family attached to it and yes, we have a great deal of sympathy and compassion for the losses incurred. However, we, as a society cannot place the burden of a lockdown or shutdown on the working folk who must prepare for their families future.

The economic damage has already occurred - it will take many years, potentially decades to restore the economy.

We cannot go back. We have increased our testing capacity and capability and as data comes in we will get a better grip on the real and actual danger Covid-19 presents. It is hopeful the data will reveal we have, in our typical human emotional state overreacted, knee-jerk style.

It is now time to see how quickly we can right the ship and get on with our lives.

I almost wanna see Trump open up America today, no restrictions, business as usual... Come on America, it's time to go back to work and make the nation proud.

The devastation would be incredible to watch - and Trump is the man for the job!

The difference between the USA and Canada is startling.

What did they do differently, or the difference in graphics simply down to population density?

It will happen anyway, Look at the amount of money that has been spent so far in US - divide it by the number of deaths. Work out the cost of each life and you will soon see that the economy will have to take precedence and open for business.

Africa will have many more deaths, we just won’t hear about it as much. They sure as shit will not get the $200 billion the WHO reckon they need to save 300,000 lives.

Deary me Betty your morals are admirable, however I would suggest you invest in a big calculator (the one on your phone will be useless - can’t handle all the zeros)

BB's graph of CV-19 deaths will soon need to be replaced by a bigger one showing deaths from starvation.

^How we can imagine that it is really possible to get the real Nos. every half day (hour) from any country around the world and get it entered in a sophisticated application, up-dated every hour... (even from very developed countries)

of course not, multiply that number by 100

I think they did the "adjustment" so not to panic everyone, or create cahos in the early hours of the spread

of course at the end that didn't help
