SAN DIEGO —
The San Diego-based aircraft carrier Theodore Roosevelt, deployed in the Western Pacific, is pulling into Guam to test its entire crew for COVID-19, Acting Navy Secretary Thomas Modly said today at a Pentagon press briefing.
At least eight sailors on board have tested positive for the virus, but a Thursday Wall Street Journal report puts the actual number at 23.
“The ship is pulling into Guam,” Modly said, adding that its crew will remain at the pier as testing is done. “No one on the crew will be allowed to leave anywhere into Guam other than pierside.”
In the meantime, we will await a more reliable source...

UK throws lifeline to self-employed hit by coronavirus
"The British government will pay grants to self-employed people who have lost their livelihoods because of the coronavirus lockdown, further extending an unprecedented package of measures to prevent the economy from collapsing.
Finance minister Rishi Sunak, who had previously announced the state would pay part of the wages of employees to dissuade their firms from laying them off, had come under pressure to offer a similar lifeline to Britain’s 5 million self-employed workers.
Governments around the world are scrambling to avert economic catastrophe, underlined on Thursday by shock figures from the United States showing that more than 3 million Americans applied for unemployment benefits last week.
Sunak said Britain’s government would pay those self-employed people who have been adversely affected by the coronavirus a taxable grant worth 80% of their average monthly profits over the last three years, up to 2,500 pounds ($3,000) a month.
“To all of those who are self employed, who are rightly anxious and worried about the next few months: you haven’t been forgotten, we will not leave you behind and we are all in this together,” Sunak said at a news conference in Downing Street.
But he added that self-employed workers will have to last out until mid-June for the scheme to kick in and they must also wait to be contacted by tax authorities.
The scheme will be open to those with trading profits of up to 50,000 pounds, for at least three months.
A Treasury official said up to 3.8 million workers will be covered and two think-tanks, the Resolution Foundation and the Institute for Fiscal Studies, estimated Thursday’s measures will cost the government some 10 billion pounds.
The cap of 2,500 pounds per month is the same as that for employees in the package of measures announced previously. Together, the schemes for employees and the self-employed will protect around 80% of British workers, Sunak said.
“What we have done will, I believe, stand as one of the most significant economic interventions at any point in the history of the British state and by any government anywhere in the world,” he said.
About 15% of Britain’s workers are self-employed, a bigger share of the workforce than in any other Group of Seven rich nations apart from Italy."

As the whole point of being classed as "self-employed" by UK tax authorities, is to reduce one's trading profits to the minimum. I suspect few will get the 80%.

Both proudly named, as you point out.
Unlike some here on TD, who try to hide their government funded, propaganda/misinformation sources.
If you wish to suggest more "honest", freely available, sources to review, I'm all ears.
I highlighted the two, IMHO, points:
Shore leave etc. in a 3rd World, Asian country, with known contagious diseases, with no known cure. Whoever signed that order deserves his last cigarette and a blindfold.
Announced military virus affected. First time anyone's military ones, I believe.
But keep on questioning sources, that's a good boy.

Dogs being trained to sniff out Covid-19: Charity
LONDON (AFP) - A British charity has teamed up with scientists to see whether dogs could help detect Covid-19 through their keen sense of smell, they said on Friday (March 27).
Medical Detection Dogs will work with the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (LSHTM) and Durham University in north-east England to determine whether canines could help diagnoses.
It follows previous research into dogs' ability to sniff out malaria and is based on a belief that each disease triggers a distinct odour.

From your source:
"after almost two dozen sailors on the ship are suspected to be affected by COVID-19 after a port visit in Vietnam."
"Navy leaders say that because crew come and go from the ship frequently while at sea they can’t yet say how the virus got on board"
No mention of the:
Who is being "economical with the truth", protecting whoever made the order to visit, mingle and allow foreigners onto an active warship ....
Or who is speculating/keeping to the "official story", out of a desire not to be carried out to sea in a naval helicopter/keep the current role of filling a newspaper with a positive spin "story"?
Lets try:
