That's good then... not much was done here in Canada when it was spreading in China/SK .. it was only when there was a case in Canada in early March were things starting to close down in Canada and people told to physically distance themselves. Ontario is now declared a state of emergency and only essential services are open. You can be fined $1000 or more if you don't self quarantine for two weeks if you come back from another country.

Wow! The US is hitting it out of the park...
That's not good, Chitty.
Some folks I spoke to in the UK were wondering if different strains were about thus explaining the higher death rates. But, it also seems to be closely linked to the testing procedures, as in a BBC article today about the low death rates in Germany; basically, Germany is testing a wider breadth of folks including those with weak symptoms while Italy/UK are testing people who are hospitalized - or words to that effect.
Cycling should be banned!!!
Spoke with my daughter this morning. She said they have 31 cases at the hospital she is working at. She said 7 of them are on life support now and will likely not make it. She is isolated from the general population being she is in the newborn pediatrics unit. They have it under strict quarantine from any visitors (including parents). There are 8 nurses covering 2 shifts (12 hrs). They enter in a special area and change clothes, go through a ionizer disinfectant type room before entering. While they are away their street clothes are washed and sanitized. They are also taken home in a van to ensure they remain isolated.
Pretty strict controls but good for my daughter.
China too. I was talking with a coworker in China yesterday and we compared notes on the Coronavirus. China is past the peak now and life is returning to normal. Pay attention to this: Chinese residents stayed in their homes FOR SIX WEEKS, with only one family member allowed to leave for groceries once or twice a week. They had to wear a mask outside the home at all times, and would use hand sanitizer EVERY TIME they touched anything outside of their home, such as placing an item in a grocery cart, or making a transaction. The SIX WEEK lock down worked because the virus found no new hosts. I have a feeling that we in the USA are screwed based on how our totally inept "leader" in Washington DC is ignoring any real action on this issue. We will peak in about 3 weeks, and our hospitals will be over run. We will be dealing with this for a long time, and I dread the death count.

One hopes I am not alone in thinking this ghastly, peculiarly British, cringingly, mawkish display of vacuous sentiment to be excruciatingly awful.
Mostly, it is because they are so stupid they fail to see the reality of the situation, in much the same way the majority failed to comprehend the stupidity of Brexit.
These very same health professionals are the ones who are being denied basic protection from infection on a daily basis because this Tory government dithered and dallied for three weeks before it finally accepted its responsibilities, a delay that followed a further two months of no action at all.
One wonders just what the dying patient drowning in their anoxia because they caught the virus from a nurse or doctor will think as life's spark is finally extinguished.
" At least I'm contributing to the herd immunity and Goebbels Cumming's strategy of killing the weak and aged" perhaps??

Headed out to our local Makro for what will be our weekly or semi-weekly shopping excursion.
Early @ 8AM - parking lot fairly occupied, only the last 3-4 rows open. Inside store, about 1/3 of isles roped off - not foodstuffs so not fro sale. Check out counters, about half open, long lines at all. Shelves pretty full. Well stocked. Saw a bit of empty space in the canned fish aisles - but, store attendants scribbling numbers down for the restocking clerks. Only "out-of-stock" was eggs. Not a chicken egg in sight. Quite a few quail egg cartons available though.
Hit the customer service aisle to purchase our face mask ration. Limit of one pack of ten per person - THB 10 per pack. About twenty folk in line. Need ID card and you get logged into computer: a) hand in ID card, b) logged into computer, c) pay ten Baht, d) get facemarks pack and ID card back. For myself, they accept my drivers license but as I am not in the computer database they make a photocopy of my drivers license.
About a half hour after I got my face mask pack the announcement came that they were out of face masks. More will be available tomorrow.
So, basically, far more shoppers than normal but no panic buying - less chicken eggs.
On another note - 4 or 5 of the male family members in my extended family are slayed off, or not able to work due to the anti-Covid restrictions implemented by the government. They are waiting for the "promised" government subsidy but don't believe they will ever see it.
