BANGKOK, 14 September 2018 (NNT) - The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration will grant certificates to tattoo artists in an attempt to improve the quality and safety of the city's tattoo studios.
Deputy Bangkok Governor Taweesak Lertprapan held a meeting on tattoo studio business in Bangkok with delegates from the Ministry of Public Health, the Food and Drugs Administration, and the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration's (BMA) Department of Health.
He said that Bangkok currently has some 4,000 tattoo artists and that the BMA is seeking to upgrade the professional quality of tattoo studios to ensure hygiene and safety of the operating venues and equipment.
Tattoo artists will also be required to have knowledge about infection prevention and put up warning signs to protect their customers.
He added the tattoo artists association will hold a meeting later this month to discuss the code of conduct for professional tattoo artists.
After the code of conduct has been agreed upon by all sides, the BMA will start issuing certificates to tattoo artists who comply with the standards.
