BANGKOK, 18 September 2018 (NNT) - Thailand's Ministry of Public Health has urged provinces to help prevent the spread of dengue fever and to monitor outbreaks of the mosquito-borne disease in flooded areas.

Deputy Permanent Secretary for Public Health, Dr. Opas Karnkawinpong, spoke of the country’s dengue fever situation after his conference call with provincial public health offices. He revealed that cases of dengue fever in August stood at 10,481, with more than 60 deaths. Outbreaks were found in 278 districts, mostly in the Bangkok Metropolitan Area. He urged all sectors to help eradicate mosquito larvae to prevent the disease from spreading.

Regarding the flood situation, he said the ministry has closely monitored affected provinces, including Satun, Phetchaburi, Nakhon Nayok, Prachinburi and Trat. It was found that most hospitals remain operational. He instructed provinces to monitor disease outbreaks once flooding recedes.
