BANGKOK, 26th August 2018 (NNT) – The Ministry of Social Development and Human Security (MSDHS) is creating a DJ Teen national network, involving youth and their parents to help prevent teenage pregnancy.
The MSDHS Permanent-Secretary, Porametee Vimolsiri, said Thailand is now seeing an increasing trend in teenage pregnancy, with 42 out of 1,000 teenagers being pregnant, a ratio which is higher than the global average.
He said the government is aimed to reduce the number of teenage mothers to 25 in 1,000 persons by 2026, a mission which would require cooperation from all sectors.
The MSDHS is working to involve youth, parents, and communities to be more aware of the sexual health and the prevention of unwanted pregnancy through the launch of the DJ Teen network, promoting a positive energy to creatively campaign for this cause.
The Ministry has granted 15 awards to participants in the DJ Teen network for the creation of campaign media for radio broadcast, online media, and folk media.
The MSDHS is also supporting the work of DJ Teen network nationwide to promote the knowledge on unwanted pregnancy protection, allowing each province to have a radio program run by youth addressing this issue.
