KHON KAEN, 10th May 2018 (NNT) - Khon Kaen International Airport has asked any surrounding villages planning to organize a traditional rocket festival to first seek permission, as their activities could endanger air traffic.
Khon Kaen International Airport has sent letters to 26 district offices seeking their cooperation on aviation safety. Meanwhile, many communities in the Northeast of Thailand are gearing up to organize the rocket festival.
The letter urges communities to notify the airport in advance where and when they are going to launch rockets, so planes can be redirected accordingly.
The rockets, known locally as Bang Faai, must be no more than 1.8 meters long and three inches wide, according to the National Council for Peace and Order’s instructions.
Rockets can only be launched between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. No more than 20 rockets can be launched per day. Failing to obey the rules may result in a maximum jail term of three years and a maximum fine of 60,000 baht.
