KANCHANABURI, 8th April 2018 (NNT) - Relevant agencies in Kanchanaburi province have launched a Pracharat cultural tourism project in Tha Muang district.
Vice Governor of Kanchanaburi Narong Rakroi, presided on Saturday over an event declaring the Tha Muang Market community a heritage quarter of Kanchanaburi. Attendees included Tha Muang district chief officer Athison Intra, Tha Muang sub-district Mayor Pisit Kanchanapinpong, high-ranking officials of different agencies and members of the general public.
The activity is aimed at promoting visits to the ancient community and encouraging all sectors to conserve the community's historical uniqueness. During the Second World War, the centuries-old quarter was a major trading center where Chinese people came to settle and work. The old market community boasts more than 90 historic buildings.
The Association of Siamese Architects under Royal Patronage, bestowed an Architectural Conservation Award on the Tha Muang Market community in 2016. HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn presented the award certificate to the community's representative at the time.
