CHIANG MAI, 4 April 2018 (NNT) – Airline passengers can now take a bus to and from Chiang Mai airport and the northern city's center.
Deputy provincial governor of Chiang Mai Krit Thanavanich presided over the launching of the R3 bus service connecting Chiang Mai airport with Nimman district in Chiang Mai city center.
The new bus line, which will be opened on a trial run on 5 April 2018, will allow airline passengers to travel to and from the airport on a 15-35 minutes ride between Nimman district and the airport. Buses will run daily from 6.00 a.m. to 12.00 a.m. The bus fare can be made with a smart card purchasable by both local people and foreigners. The fleet consists of 11 air-conditioned, low-floor buses which can accommodate 45 passengers each.
The new bus route is provided by Regional Transit Co., Ltd. The introduction of the new public transport system is in line with the province's Smart Growth strategy which seeks to curtail the use of private vehicles, and encourage urban development in the right direction.
