KHON KAEN, 28 February 2018 (NNT) – Khon Kaen province is offering rabies vaccination for pets free of charge in response to a recent outbreak of the virus in the city center.
Provincial Governor of Khon Kaen Somsak Jungtrakoon presided over the opening ceremony for the rabies vaccination campaign for pets provided by Khon Kaen City Municipality as part of the measure to control the spread of rabies in the northeastern province.
Khon Kaen City has recently discovered cases of rabies infection in animals, and the city area is now declared as a temporary outbreak zone. There has been no report of infection in human.
Khon Kaen has offered the rabies vaccination to dogs and cats in risk areas, and instructed local health volunteers to check with every household their potential exposure to the virus.
Deputy Mayor of Khon Kaen City Julnop Thongsopit said the vaccination service for pets is available free of charge and the municipality will offer the service at Kaen Nakhon Lake on 7-10 March 2018.
The general public are advised to immediately seek medical attention, should they be bitten or scratched by dogs or cats to prevent infection in time.
