NAKHON SI THAMMARAT, 20th February 2018 (NNT) - The Royal Irrigation Department is moving forward with irrigation projects based on royal initiatives to provide sustainable flood prevention in Nakhon Si Thammarat.
Governor of Nakhon Si Thammarat, Chamroen Tipayapongtada spoke of the mobilization of projects based on royal initiatives such as flood mitigation in Nakhon Si Thammarat, Klong Sang Reservoir, and Wang Hip Dam. He said all projects were based on the initiatives of His Majesty King Rama 9 who wished to create new water sources and expand on existing streams in the province. He assured the public that owners of any expropriated land will be compensated and that the projects will be mindful of environmental side effects.
The flood mitigation project in Nakhon Si Thammarat entails expanding Wang Wua and Hua Tru canals and digging three new canals to connect with the existing two. Mr Chamroen revealed that the Cabinet has called for the project to be accelerated from a 6 year to a 3 year timeframe. So far, the local irrigation department has surveyed the project area and has completed most of the pillar installations. The project now needs to expropriate 1.3 kilometers of land from 60 households in Chai Montri Subdistrict. Officials will negotiate with each household and expect construction to commence in March this year.
The builders of Klong Sang Reservoir will begin compensating residents for expropriated land at the end of this year and will begin construction in 2019.
