Cambodian police raid illegal cinema offering beds to students

Police on Monday raided a newly-opened cinema in Phnom Penh’s Chamkarmon district, featuring beds for viewers rather than seats, arresting the owners and detaining a group of teenagers for education.


Ly Vireak, a Chamkarmon district police officer, said three adults, who were the owners and managers of Home Cinema, were arrested for operating an illegal business that was enticing students to skip school and lay in beds all day instead.





“These students did not go to study at school,” he said. “They came to watch movies at the cinema because it had luxury beds along with air-conditioners.”


“They were arrested after our police raided Home Cinema,” he added. “When we arrived there, some students were sleeping and others were sitting in a group.”





Mr Vireak said the 16 detained students were educated about the importance of not skipping school and then released into the custody of their parents.


He added that the three adults who ran the business remain detained by police for further questioning and were due to make a court appearance today. Mr Vireak declined to reveal the identities of the adults detained.

So if your quiet and discreet you could maybe save money by using the local movie theater as a short time hotel. Still, you'd have to pick the right movie, I would have trouble shagging watching a horror movie flick. And some bloke shouting "Will you keep it down, please".
