WHO recognizes Thailand’s success in eradicating elephantiasis

BANGKOK, 3rd February 2018 (NNT) – The World Health Organization has praised Thailand for its achievement in eliminateing elephantiasis, a human disease caused by parasitic worms.

On behalf of Thailand, Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-o-cha received a plaque of honor from WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus for becoming an elephantiasis-free society.

The WHO chief also lauded Thailand for playing a major role in the global healthcare industry while recognizing the nation’s remarkable accomplishment in the prevention of mother-to-child transmission of HIV.

Thanking the WHO chief, Gen Prayut said Thailand will continue to integrate the WHO’s policies in its health-related operations, informing Director-General Ghebreyesus of the government’s universal health coverage scheme which the prime minister believes will help narrow the existing social gap.

Gen Prayut added that Thailand is happy to share its knowledge and experience in public health with other developing and undeveloped nations.

I've seen black African women with this infection , and it's terrible , I praise Thailand for this achievement . May nobody suffer again from this awful infection .

Cant say the same for Africa, they'll eliminate real elephants before sorting out this infection .
