Government stresses importance given to corruption problem

BANGKOK, 3rd February 2018 (NNT) - The Deputy Prime Minister says that the government is giving close attention to mechanisms to prevent and suppress corruption.

Deputy Prime Minister Wissanu Krea-ngam recently gave a special lecture on “national policies and national reformation concerning the prevention and suppression of corruption” to the 9th generation of chief executive officers in charge of strategies preventing and suppressing corruption.

He said that prevention of corruption and misconduct was a serious matter and the government had applied the strategies of the National Anti-Corruption Commission in four respects, deterrence, prevention, suppression and organizational administration, as guidelines for directing the prevention and suppression of corruption in the country.

The measures have been applied through various mechanisms such as the committee for national reformation in respect to the prevention and suppression of corruption and a national plan that will be developed to be enforced in March. National strategies in regard to security and organization of services and good governance also play a part.

Moreover, the matter covers the issue of statutes such as a statute on facilitation in the authority’s consideration of permission, which means reduction of conflict of interests in terms of the purchase of convenience. Even though the measures cannot entirely prevent corruption, they should reduce it.

In dealing with corruption, the government cannot meet with success by acting alone; civil society must also be involved. Therefore, it is necessary to make the network understand the strategies and tactics intended to prevent and suppress corruption.
