Zimbabwean Family Has Been Stranded in a Thai Airport for Almost Three Months

A Zimbabwean family has spent almost three months living in Bangkok’s main airport, Thai immigration officials confirmed Wednesday.
A spokesperson for the Thai Immigration Bureau told local paper the Bangkok Post that the family of four adults and four children were refusing to travel back to Zimbabwe because of political concerns.
They had been flown back to Bangkok after attempting to travel to Spain via Ukraine because they did not have appropriate visas, he said, and could not re-enter Thailand because they had overstayed their initial tourist visas by five months. The family have reportedly made several unsuccessful attempts to leave Thailand.

The airport jam garnered local attention after a man who said he worked at Suvarnabhumi airport posted a picture of himself on Facebook giving one of the children a Christmas present, the BBC reports.
The girl and her family were living at the airport, Kanaruj Artt Pornsopit wrote in a since-deleted post, “because of the unsettled situation” in Zimbabwe.
Facebook users likened their plight to the Hollywood film The Terminal, where Tom Hanks’ character is stuck at a New York airport.
Airport staff have reportedly been providing them with meals and assistance.

Don't know why they just don't fook her off back to where she come from same as they do with punters who have overstayed their Visa.

She is no different from many other people and if they let this shit crack on the Airports world wide will be full of plebs seeking asylum.

Gota take the hard line or the place will be fooked.

It's like a seige, they aren't stranded at all... free flight back to Harare... the goblin is no longer in power.
If only EU countries would apply international law on asylum as strictly as non-EU countries clearly do...

Not stranded if you choose it. Send her home, her life's not in danger if she returns.

Based on what's been reported in other papers. They only claim 'political unrest' as the reason. Might have been a valid reason at first, but it's been a peaceful change of power. If they are in danger they aren't talking about it....makes it all pretty suspect....IMO anyway

Zimbabwean Family Stranded at Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi Airport Heads to the Philippines

BANGKOK – Thai Immigration Police spokesman Cherngron Rimpadee said today that a Zimbabwean family stranded at Suvarnabhumi airport for months has left Thailand for the Philippines.

Apokesman Cherngron Rimpadee said the family left Thailand on Monday with the help of the United Nations Refugee Agency UNHCR. It is not known where they will settle next.

UNHCR declined to comment, saying it does not comment on individual cases.

The family of eight including four children arrived in Thailand as tourists in May.

On Oct 23, they bought a ticket from Ukraine International Airlines (UIA) for Barcelona via Kiev but were denied boarding since they did not have visas to enter Spain, a source said.

The airline took the family back to Thailand, where immigration police asked the airline to take them back to Zimbabwe, but the family refused to budge, the source said.

On Nov 7 the family attempted to leave for Spain via Ukraine a second time and made it to Ukraine before they were sent back to Suvarnabhumi airport on Nov 13, the source said.

The family then sought asylum status with the United Nations. While waiting to be relocated, the family stayed at Suvarnabhumi airport’s transfer passenger lounge.

The story of the family being stranded at the airport was broken to the public by a Facebook user.
