10 Chinese tourists and bus driver injured in bus plunge into roadside ditch

A tour bus driver and 10 Chinese tourists, including a two-month pregnant woman, were injured when their bus developed brake failure and crashed into two cars before plunging into a roadside ditch at the foot of Wat Phra Thart Doi Suthep in Chiang Mai on Monday.

There were altogether 32 Chinese tourists on the bus at the time of the accident at about 4.15 pm. All the injured were later taken by police and rescue workers to Maharaj Chiang Mai hospital for first-aid treatment.

The 38-year old bus driver, Mr Chavalit, was later escorted by police to Phuping police station for questioning.

Fuck me, the UN development agency should sponsor some sort of internationally sourced research programme into this phenomenon of brake failure that affects Thai omnibuses by their hundreds annually. Certainly seems to be the hub of failure with wheels falling off everywhere, all the time.
    Har, har.

They should post photos of Somchai pointing at the offending brake pedal.

Bit of a tough one, these constant brake failures. Blaming the tourists saying ''if they weren't in Thailand it wouldn't have happened'' would be a valid excuse

I've heard it given when Jonny farang fell down a pavement hole in Pattaya.

I've been in the mountains 2 days ago, as usual I noticed many cars and vans using their brakes almost all the way down instead of using low gear.

No wonder brake failure happens so regularly here
