People warned against being overcharged taking motorcycle taxis to Grand Palace

People queuing to pay respect to late King have been warned against being overcharged by motorcycle taxi operators

Some of the motorcycle taxi operators plying on the Ratchadamnern – Grand Palace route are found to have overcharged people waiting in a queue to pay respect to the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej in the Grand Palace for a ride to a screening spot.

On Sept 30, while a large number of people were waiting in a queue, they were asked by some motorcycle taxi operators who offered to take them to the territorial defence centre, which is one of the screening points, saying that in doing so they would not have to wait for a long time. The people who used their service were charged 50-60 baht, much higher than the legal rate of 25 baht for a distance of not more than 2 kilometres.

Niran Permsati, a motorcycle taxi operator in Buranasart area, said many motorcycle taxis from other areas have also come to offer their service for people heading for the Grand Palace and charged them as high as 100 baht per trip.

This has happened although police have tried to prevent the people from being overcharged.

Pol Lt Meechai Hakham, a traffic police officer, said police have tried to warn the people to beware of being overcharged and advised them to instead take a free bus ride of the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration.

Can't they impose stiff penalties and fine the motorcycle taxis that are overcharging passengers?

In the jungle, and in Zoo cages, perhaps.

It was the same during the 2011 floods.

Small boats were handed out and going around collecting people and their possessions from their houses, if they paid cash money up front, if not... see ya, wouldn't wanna be ya. 500b cash or you're being left in your flooded moo bahn with no food, water or electricity and flood water and shit upto the second story.

    The koonts.

Chitown got all a huffin' and a puffin' as it was a moody chink bitch in charge of his place's boat, and she flat-out refused to take him no matter what because he wasn't Thai.

It's times like this you really see the nature of the Thai.

Thai taking advantage of others, is that news?
Did you expect some goodwill from moto-taxis in this mourning context? It can happen, but well it's exceptional

Jeff the supposed Thai/Lao dink would say that NO Thais would do that. He would say: "It's the FARANGS fault."
