BANGKOK, 24 September 2017 (NNT) – The Department of Skill Development (DSD) aims to provide training to 200,000 existing workers, while preparing 10,000 new workers to enter the workforce and enhancing worker skills in 2018.
DSD Director-General Teerapol Khunmuang discloses that the department has instructed training centers nationwide to organize skill development training programs and campaigns starting on the beginning of the new fiscal year, with a focus on developing skills to meet demand in the labor market and local needs.
The DSD training program usually runs for four months at a training center and two additional months in the actual workplace. Trainees have to go through tests upon training completion to guarantee their skill quality.
The DSD is aiming to provide training to 226,000 workers, both in the formal and informal sectors, and prepare 10,000 new workers to enter the workforce. Training will be provided in areas such as automobile and parts manufacturing, tourism and services, and logistics.
The program also includes skill enhancement training for 2,800 workers to work in an advanced technology sector in the Eastern Economic Corridor special economic zone.
Local training centers are now accepting applications for interested individuals to take part in the training program. The application deadline is between mid to late October depending on applicant's location. More information can be obtained at Local Skill Development Offices, or dial 02-245-4035.
