Thanks to the intervention of the director-general of the Local Administration Department, two stateless brothers are now able to leave their mountainous home in Chiang Mai for Bangkok to compete in the Thailand Paper Aeroplane Championship in Bangkok.
The two boys, Saengharn and Kongkham Nai On, and their parents went to Sansai district office on Wednesday to seek formal permission to get out of their restricted zone in order to join the competition in Bangkok on Friday.
Sansai district chief officer Adul Huaklek who signed the permit gave moral support to the two boys and their parents who are Myanmar migrants working in Chiang Mai’s Sansai district.
The boy’s mother said she was very glad that her two children were allowed to join the competition to realize their dream. She added that they had been training for the event for several months.
Saengharn and Kongkham were only mentioned in the official records of the Myanmar Consular Office in Chiang Mai as followers of Myanmar migrant worker in Thailand.
Some concerned people have expressed concern that some contestants might raise the issue about the nationality of the two boys if they manage to get through to the championship match because of their stateless status.
