Almost 1,000 farming areas in Nakhon Phanom flooded by rising water lever in Mekong r

NAKHON PHANOM, 21 July 2017 (NNT) - The water level in the Mekong river has been rising continuously, submerging almost 1,000 rais of farming areas in Nakhon Phanom province.

Nakhon Phanom Governor Somchai Witdamrong said that the continuous downpours has caused the water level in Mekong river to increase continually and has reached about 9.3 meters, only 3.7 meters away from the critical point at 13 meters.

River banks along Mekong have began to overflow to flood low land areas especially in southern Nakhon Phanom such as That Phanom district and Na Kae district. Initially, about 1,000 rais of agricultural areas have been flooded.

Authorities are now constantly monitoring the water levels every six hours. The water volume from Nong Khai can be used to predict the water level in Mekong river in Nakhon Phanom.
