CHUMPHON, 17 July 2017 (NNT) – Authorities in Chumporn province have inspected fishing boats at Chumporn estuary in search of any illegal crewmembers.

Government agencies related to the solving of illegal employment in the fishing industry, namely the Labor Protection and Welfare Office, Chumporn Provincial Employment Office, a special police force, the immigration police, the 44th Army Area, the 41st border patrol police, and Chumporn province's Damrongtham Center, have conducted the inspection of fishing boats operating in the Gulf of Thailand in bid to suppress human trafficking, forced labor, and child labor.

The crewmembers have been directly interviewed and have their documents checked along with wage payment receipts and employment contracts.

Suchat Promsombat, who headed the inspection said Chumporn province regularly conducts inspection monthly to follow up on the human trafficking and illegal employment situations.

in July 2017, 12 fishing boats have been inspected so far, along with 257 crewmembers, 87 of which are Thais, while 172 others are from Myanmar, and one from Laos. No violation of the law was found during the official inspection.
