People living along klongs in Muang district of Nakhon Si Thammarat have been warned to not venture into the public waterways for their own safety as four crocodiles, including Nadia, a five-metre giant croc of the district’s zoo, are still on the loose.

Municipal and zoo officials have launched a hunt for Nadia and the other smaller crocodiles escaped from private farms for the past two days, but still are unable to locate them although sightings of the smaller crocs were reported.

Officials on Thursday employed several fire trucks to drain water out of Thung Tha Lard lake to look for the loose crocodiles which might be hiding in the lake.

The zoo where Nadia was kept for years is located close to the lake. But officials suspected that Nadia might be hiding in Tha Pae canal which is connected with the sea.

A hybrid of fresh-water and sea-water crocodiles, Nadia was brought into Thailand from India with another crocodile which was dead some years ago.
