PHUKET, 6 January 2017 (NNT) – The Governor of Phuket has instructed relevant authorities to initiate the reorganization of public vans, utilizing the GPS system in an effort to prevent accidents.

Phuket Governor Chokchai Detamornthan disclosed that Phuket province will begin employing the GPS system that will control and monitor all types of public vans, with a goal that all public vans will be using the GPS system by the end of January 2017.

Phuket Provincial Office of Land Transport Chief Sommai Sutkhao disclosed that the Phuket Provincial Office of Land Transport has set up a GPS center to link data with the public transport management center, which is responsible for collecting van data such as the vehicle's speed, the river's driving hours and real time location.

The GPS system will be a tool that can help transport operators to track drivers’ behavior and determine measures that will prevent and reduce accidents.

The GPS system could be extended to include not only public vans, but trucks as well.
