KUALA LUMPUR: Abang bomba were kept busy right up to New Year’s Eve, res[at]cuing a girl whose leg was trapped in a drain grill to helping a dude whose penis got stuck in a metal ring.

The 30-something man was in agony when firemen were called to the University Malaya Medical Centre, said City Fire and Rescue Department chief operations officer Samsol Maarif Saibani.

It took 12 rescuers from two fire stations, working from about 9pm on Friday till 2am yesterday, to free him from his torture.

Initially, a team from the Hang Tuah station was despatched to the ward but it found the metal ring too thick to cut through.

Samsol said the blade of the tool used to cut the ring was not sharp enough for the delicate task.

“We had to call in another team from the Sungai Buloh headquarters to help us,” he said.

“Usually in a case like this, the bomba would be called in to help because medical facilities do not have the tools required to remove a ring from the private parts,” he said.

Samsol did not disclose how the ring got stuck on the man’s penis.

In another case yesterday morning, a girl’s left leg got trapped in a drain grill at Taman Tun Dr Ismail here.

Apparently, she had not noticed a gap in the iron grill.

Firefighters managed to free her within minutes, said a Fire and Rescue Department spokesman.

“She suffered minor bruises on her leg,” he added.
