Six drug caravan guards shot dead in clash in Chiang Mai border

Six armed guards of a drug caravan were shot dead yesterday in a fierce clash with soldiers near the Thai-Myanmar border in Chiang Mai.
More than 500,000 meth pills and 30 kilogrammes of heroin and a kilogramme of opium were seized.

Two assault rifles were also confiscated.

Soldiers from the Pamuang Task Force were ordered to step up border patrol following a tipoff that a big lot of illicit drugs would be transported from Doi Sam Sao to Baan Huay Laan in Mae Ai district.

As soldiers were on patrol, they spotted a drug caravan heavily guarded by armed men.

Order was sent out for the men to stop for search.

But the armed men in the convoy opened fire at soldiers in bud to escape from the cordon.

After a 15-minute exchange of gunfire, six armed guards were shot dead while all soldiers are safe.

Narcotic police were called in to investigate into the narcotic gang responsible for this convoy.

Yup, it wasn't an execution of ethnic minorities without trial.

Either that or they kept the real guns to sell on.
