Sea of fog draws swarms of tourists to Chiang Rai

CHIANG RAI, 11 December 2016 (NNT) - The tourist season in the northern province of Chiang Rai is in full swing as tourists flock to Phu Chi Fa Mountain to see the beautiful sea of fog.

According to the Chiang Rai Meteorological Office, temperatures across the province have been dropping steadily, with the ground-level reading hitting its lowest at 12.8 degrees Celsius in the capital district near Mae Fah Luang Airport. The mercury reportedly plunges further by up to 4 degrees Celsius when measured on mountaintops.

Mr Niphon Jomnongsirisak, Director of the Protected Area Regional Office 15, said the average temperature atop Phu Chi Fa Mountain in Thoeng district on the Thai-Lao border was recently recorded at only 8 degrees Celsius. The wintry condition is also accompanied by thick fog, prompting a need for motorists to be extra careful due to poor visibility.

Mr Niphon added that, thanks to clear skies, approximately 3,000 people are visiting Phu Chi Fa Forest Park throughout this long weekend to marvel at the sea of mist, which is even more captivating at sunrise. Due to the influx of tourists, 20 park officers have been deployed to ensure their safety and convenience

^ Good luck with that! They will be out in record numbers Monday.

My friends and I went to Ikea in Bangkok yesterday. Just incredible the number of people squeezed in that mall.

Hard to believe that some folks haven't seen proper mist.
