Snow falls in November in Tokyo for first time in 54 years

TOKYO (AP) — Tokyo residents woke up Thursday to the first November snowfall in more than 50 years.

An unusually cold air mass brought wet snow to Japan's capital. Above-freezing temperatures kept the snow from sticking in most places, though it did accumulate on sidewalks and cars in Tokyo's far western suburbs.

Meteorologists forecast up to 2 centimeters (1 inch) would fall, and more in the mountains northwest of Tokyo.

The snow caused minor train delays during the morning commute.

The last time it snowed in central Tokyo in November was 1962.

Damm ... it was snowing also in Australia overnight in the Victorian Alps.

Meanwhile, over in the west, it's currently a toasty 37.3 C at Kununurra

Which means more evaporation, more atmospheric moisture, more rain and snow.

It's science, but it's not rocket science.

If by a bit you mean totally, then you are correct.

Temperatures at the North Pole have been reported as being 20 deg C higher than normal for this time of year. 20 deg C !!

The influx of warm air is caused by a weakened jet stream. This in turn has caused a southern bulge in the jet stream over Siberia meaning cold air is being pushed south. That's why it's unseasonal snow in Japan.

I remember when the Global Warming first hit the headlines and one major theory was that, as our planet warms ... Great Britian will freeze ... will cool significantly due to the reduction in the warming Gulf Stream.

But, like any theory, the theory has it critics.

Global warming doesn't mean temperature raised by 1 or 2°c and that's it folks, it means weather will be less predictable with cold waves much colder, rain storms much more "rainy", dry episodes more hot and dry ... all that strains the environment capacity to get back to "normal", adapt to this new conditions ...

Bhutan. The best of both worlds.
From Himalayan alpine to steamy tropical jungle.

Tough act to follow after Isaan.
